Fontana to be converted to a half-mile short track
https://racer.com/2020/09/08/fontana-to ... ort-track/
I'm all for Nascar moving back to short tracks and I assume Fontana couldn't carry it's own weight any longer. A shame whoever owns North Wilkesboro don't seem to be as keen on bringing that place back from the dead.

No surprise. Fontana is Top 3 of the worst NASCAR races year in & year out. I suppose even they couldn't do anything with this sucker.
Since IndyCars bailed on this track, there's no way back.
Then again, NASCAR also changed the Phoenix layout recently and I don't know why exactly?

This is cool. It'll end up becoming a track with more of an identity instead of being "Michigan v2.0".
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

The Phoenix change was stupid af. Let's add a ton of banking so the cars go even faster and struggle even more in dirty air.Vassago wrote: ↑3 years ago No surprise. Fontana is Top 3 of the worst NASCAR races year in & year out. I suppose even they couldn't do anything with this sucker.

The Phoenix reconfiguration was horrible for Indycar at least. Dreadful.
As for Fontana... That'll cost a lot. I assume they'll sell the rest and build houses. Would be interesting to see an Indycar on the new layout.

Should be Texas getting cut down not Fontana, I cannot recall one exciting finish in a NASCAR race at Texas.

An Indy car on a half miler, going for a record? Yeah, that might be okay.MonteCristo wrote: ↑3 years agoAn Indycar, yes!John wrote: ↑3 years agoIndycar on a half-mile bull-ring?MonteCristo wrote: ↑3 years ago The Phoenix reconfiguration was horrible for Indycar at least. Dreadful.

Twenty or so of them at once? Unh-unh.
That would be about as exciting as the 25+ Cup (GN back then) cars at Islip...and that was when I appreciated NASCAR. Boring as sheet. Would rather have watched bumper cars at a carnival or playland.
Swore I'd never do that again. Didn't have to worry about that decision.....they stopped coming back......

It would be more than 22 cars and it wouldn't be good. Someone would get killed.

Do you really think so?
I can't see them going all that fast unless it was a literal banked circle all way around. If they had corners you needed to lift for (and in the layout in the Racer.com link the corners look very tight - might even need to brake for them) there wouldn't too much danger. Certainly no more than other tracks.

I think it would be too many cars on a fast, banked track.
It would be Richmond on steroids.
