I can't be without motorsport for the next few months. Are there any major events going ahead as scheduled over the next few weeks?

They were advertising for course workers, hospitality staff and general temp. staff over the weekend for Symmons Plains Supercars (April 3-5), even though I cant see the race going ahead under legislation now introduced, ie crowds limit of 500, and the general consensus of opinion.

No idea about the States, though I am sure others here would know.

Well, I'm sold.

BTCC at Donington Park might still be going ahead in 12 days. I will keep my eyes open for that one.

It seems that CAMS/MA are trying to press ahead with the TCR/Super5000 etc round in Sydney too in a couple of weeks despite the crowd limit. I'm not sure how they are going to be able to do that while staying under the 500 person limit even without allowing spectators. Even if it does go ahead they'd only have drivers/personnel who are based in Aus given the travel policies in place ATM.

AMRS back in the day would have had fewer than 500, lol.

Motorsport Australia issued a statement saying they can see ways round it which they again confirmed today they stand by.

Motorsport Australia believes ‘many events’ can proceed despite mass gathering legislation
https://www.speedcafe.com/2020/03/15/mo ... gislation/

The Govt seem to think different.
The Public Health (COVID-19 Public Events) Order 2020 was enacted last night by NSW Minister for Health and Medical Research, Brad Hazzard, under the state’s Public Health Act 2010, in line with the update delivered by Prime Minister Scott Morrison earlier that afternoon that states/territories would legislate to ban certain public gatherings drawing over 500 people due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Under the order, which takes effect today and is currently to be repealed on June 14, “a person must not hold a public event at which there are, or are likely to be, 500 persons or more in attendance at any one time.”

A ‘public event’ includes that which “requires the purchase of a ticket or the payment of an entry fee” according to the order, and covers sporting events.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews this morning declared a four-week state of emergency which makes certain organised mass gatherings an offence.

“It is not optional in any way,” said Premier Andrews.

“There will be significant disruption, there will be significant difficulty caused by these orders and many events having to be cancelled.

“These powers have never been used before. That gives you, I hope, a really clear sense about the unprecedented nature of this public health emergency.

“If they are over 500 people and they are not essential and there are clear definitions about that, then they are not to go ahead.

“There are significant penalties for event organisers who fail to comply with that order.

“There are significant penalties across the board when it comes to these orders made under the public health and wellbeing about and under a state of emergency. I would just say, though, that we don’t anticipate having to be fining people.”

The Motorsport Australia response to the Govt statement today.
A Motorsport Australia spokesperson confirmed to Speedcafe.com that its position from yesterday afternoon is unchanged in light of the confirmations from those state governments.

“The current advice is that many events are still able to continue, in line with any restrictions in place,” said the spokesperson.
I think Motorsport Aus have their head in the sand..... it was they who up to 15 minutes before the AGP was officially cancelled were saying all systems are go.

I went to Lakeside yesterday and I didn't see any precautions taken at all aside from a single person wearing a face mask, although there weren't that many people there (maybe 100-200 spectators plus officials and competitors).

Motorsport NZ has said events over there can continue too, although they've put in some strict guidelines including having less then 500 people in the confines of the track (as per their government rules).

It's not looking too good as far as the continuation of Aus/NZ motorsport is concerned, both the Victorian state titles at Winton (with Aus Formula Ford headlining) and the NZ Nationals at Hampton Downs which were set to be run in two weekends' time have been cancelled because of the 500 person limit.

EDIT: Welp, the first three BTCC rounds have been postponed too.

Supercars has decided to postpone all events between now and June.

The Bathurst 6 Hour has also been postponed, apparently they are going to try and run it as part of the Bathurst International meeting in November.

What did you see there?

I am guessing this means the S5000 series is also postponed.

Unfortunately yes.

It was basically a club meeting, there was 60/70s Group N tourers, 60s TransAm, the state touring car championship, production sports cars (which confusingly had a couple of old GT3 cars and a Lola T70 replica in it), and a esoteric touring/stock car class.
