Same here. We had one day only a bit snow at a few places. And that's it. We can hardly call it winter.

Yet there's Donald Trump saying, "Sure could use some of that global warming now," everytime it gets a bit chilly...

I hope 'Colis's Crest is still in the route. It wouldnt be the same without that. Not that it will be the usual Rally Sweden by all accounts. A shame because Sweden is usually one that I go out of my way to watch. A must see event for me. :sorrow:
Nope.

It'll be 8 degrees warm in Karlstad this weekend. In the middle of February.

This. Is. Not. Normal.

Why can't they just drive without the snow? Tyres?

IIRC the Swedes are concerned about the roads being churned up by the cars.

Tyre supplier don't want to provide gravel tyres. This time they literally had all winter to prepare for that, but they didn't. Also, as a regular gravel rally, Rally Sweden would be just as fast if not faster than Rally Finland, so there is that safety aspect too.

Yup. But speed has gone down a little bit, so won't beat the record.

Just one stage today, the power stage. :| Evans has been brilliant and is in a safe-ish lead.

Just noticed we are getting the power stage live on TV so I will be staying up watching that. Sadly we only get highlights of the days activities the next day, and I had to record day 2 as I was busy, so will watch that when the concert for the Aussie Firefighters is finished. (Queen with Adam Lambert have just finished, Alice Cooper coming up )
But Evans looked on fire in day 1 which I watched yesterday. As long as he beats Ogier I am happy, but a win would be nice!

Elfyn Evans wins Rally Sweden! First Brit to do so! Despite the abbreviated distance and the warm weather, a great great rally. Never imagined Evans to perform this well, and then there's Kalle Rovanperä! Rovanperä wins the power stage in just his 2nd WRC start, finished 3rd overall at 19 years old. Super star in the making. Tänak finishes 2nd in the Hyundai.

Gotta say that the driver quality in WRC today is amazing, there's not one driver that does not belong where they are. And then there's Mikkelsen, Meeke, Östberg, Pontus Tidemand and Haydon Paddon on the outside looking in, and young drivers like Jari Huttunen, Emil Lindholm, Ole Christian Veiby and Oliver Solberg.

There just needs to be more cars. Citroen, WTF.

Great result for Evans and what a Power Stage from Rovanpera. As @Cheeveer said, a future star in the making.
The best team principal moment this week was Tommi Makkinen when Rovanpera crossed the Power Stage finish line comfortably fastest at the time. Ogier did not even make the podium and was the slowest of the three Toyotas this weekend. (Not that I dislike Seb, but I love seeing a multi champ whooped by a rookie.

Overall result

Evans now leads the championship in a tiebreak with Neuville, not quite sure how, but he is ahead on countback despite joint points.
Edit, worked it out....Neuville has one win and a 6th place and Evans has 1 win and a 3rd, plus of course their power points.

I really enjoyed that despite its curtailed content and no Colin's Crest. Looking forward to Mexico.

Hehehe I got my Colin's Crest fix after all.... immediately after the live Power Stage we had a programme on TV about the WRC's most iconic stages, called WRC: Signature Stages. The Vargåsen stage which includes Colin's Crest was one of them. The current drivers now say that with the latest increases in downforce they are unable to 'fly' as far over the crest now. Some spectacular footage of CC from previous years including of course Neuville landing on 2 wheels one year. Tried to find the prog on youtube to share it but no luck. :sorrow:

WRC Rally Mexici went ahead this weekend despite Coronavirus interfering, but sadly due to new travel restrictions had to be trimmed of the final day to allow teams and personnel to get out prior to conditions chanfing, so the 3 stages due to run on Sunday were cancelled.

It still qualifies for full points as over 75% of the stage miles were completed.

In the end Sebastien Ogier took the win from Otto Tanak and Teemu Suninen.... Neuville had car problems and stopped on a stage on Friday but restarted the rally under Rally 2 regs. Evans finished down the order in 4th position with Kalle Rovanpera 5th.

Espakka Lappi’s M-Sport Fiesta had already gone up in flames on the Friday while Hyundai’s Dani Sordo went out with an overheating engine on just his first full day of competitive action of the season.

Thus Ogier now leads the Championship.

Drivers’ championship (Top 9)

Pos Driver Pts
1 S. OGIER 62
2 E. EVANS 54
3 T. NEUVILLE 42
4 K. ROVANPERÄ 40
5 O. TÄNAK 38
6 T. SUNINEN 26
7 E. LAPPI 24
8 S. LOEB 8
9 T. KATSUTA 8

With Argentina cancelled the next round (I would say very provisionally) is Portugal on May 21-24.
