Loeb vs. Grönholm, what year is it?! Grönholm won that battle, which surprised me! Then again Loeb hasn't been in Sweden for 6 years either.
Neuville fastest overall, Ogier 2nd.

Some real surprises on the Friday: Ogier crashes out, and Teemu Suninen leads! Close behind is Latvala. So, it is not surprising that a Finn is leading, but Suninen in the Ford is quite the shock.

Wow.... looking at some of the times on stages Suninen has been consistently fast. I must confess to having a snigger re Ogier crashing out.
I see Suninen won the Special at the end of the day (SS8). Latvala seems to have disappeared off the leader board, but nothing on WRC.com.

Latvala went off and got stuck in a ditch on SS8... last seen digging with a shovel! He has lost at least 15 mins looking at the time between tweets on the Rally Finland twitter a/c.Everso Biggyballies wrote: ↑5 years ago Latvala seems to have disappeared off the leader board, but nothing on WRC.com.

As an aside, Petter Solberg is leading the Historic class in his Escort.

Really impressed by Suninen's run in this rally so far. The conditions look absolutely horrid and unpredictable but the confidence with which he's landing into the corners is phenomenal. Sad to see Latvala do a Latvala again but glad Tanak still very much in the lead battle at least. Hope it's a close race to Sunday.
Was really hoping for Gronholm to make a respectable comeback like Loeb, especially with such a strong outfit like Toyota but...Oyi oyi oyi!

On a similar note, I was watching this Pathe highlight reel of the 1964 East African rally and it contains rare(?) footage of Pat Moss Karlsson (Stirling Moss' sister) and her husband Erik Karlsson participating (in separate entries). Thought that was cool, so sharing it here.Everso Biggyballies wrote: ↑5 years ago As an aside, Petter Solberg is leading the Historic class in his Escort.

Thanks for posting that.... I love watching the iconic events from history such as the Safari / East Africa Etc. Proper rallies with huge stages, a real test of endurance for crews and cars alike. Cars that needed to be driven. Unlike the relatively short and groomed stages we have nowadays in cars with every electronic gadgetry known to man.SB83 wrote: ↑5 years ago

That was Vargåsen just now, feat Colin's Crest. Some glorious shots over there, but nothing quite like Neuville's last year just yet. Will have that stage again at 15:00!

Despite a massive moment, Ogier fastest, while Suninen has a fairly large shunt. Kept it going though.
