Huge shunt at the start of the 1st Abu Dhabi F2 race. Albon failed to get away, and has started behind the SC but a lap down. That should see Russell ok to take the F2 title after this race.
Latifi stalled from P3 and Maini could not avoid him at the start. Sette Camara and Fukuzumi also stopped. Latifi walked away.
Surprised they did not red flag it. They now have a crane on the start straight clearing cars.

Albon has scored a lucky break.... he is allowed to unlap himself under SC rules. But he will be rear of field and Russell is currently 2nd so fairly safe. Sette Camara also.

George Russell wins race 1 and with it becomes 2018 FIA F2 Champion.
For me driver of the race was Ghiotto..... he started 16th, ran a super long strategy which saw him leading the race whenn others had pitted. Despite old tyres he opened a gap of 25 seconds before he was given a 5 second penalty for exceeding track limits. He stopped for tyres, 3 laps from the end, rejoined 6th or 7th and flew past the likes of Norris like he was stopped, climbing back up to third just a few seconds behing Russell and Markelov in 2nd. A great result given his start position and a penalty.

Ticktum and Auer confirmed in Japanese Super Formula for 2019.
Red Bull has confirmed that Dan Ticktum will be heading east in 2019 to race in the Japanese Super Formula series. He will race for Mugen, backed by Red Bull.
Former DTM winner Lucas Auer is also spending a year in Japan. The nephew of Gerhard Berger was left without a programme for 2019 following Mercedes departure from the DTM series. Auer will join the new B-Max Racing/Motorpark operation in Super Formula, also backed by Red Bull.
More names will join the Red Bull junior programme.... they will announce its full programme by the end of the year.

Good to see that Trident have cancelled Ferrucci's contract for not only his actions but defaulting on his payments for the ride, as well as his antics at Silverstone.
To make matters worse for him his management company have also ditched him
Formula 2 team Trident Motorsport has parted ways with banned Haas Formula 1 junior driver Santino Ferrucci, who crashed into team-mate Arjun Maini and drove with a phone in hand.
Trident has cited Ferrucci's actions, as well as payment issues, for the reason of the contract termination.
The statement said Trident had "communicated to Santino Ferrucci and to its guarantor, a company represented by Mr Michael Ferrucci, the termination of the contract with the team.
"This decision was motivated by the events - which are now in the public domain - that occurred at Silverstone, as well as by the serious breach of driver's payment obligations.
"Since the beginning of the championship, the driver justified his payment default with alleged failure by his sponsors to fulfil their obligations.
"It seems weird that, despite such kind of issues, Santino Ferrucci had the resources needed to enter the Detroit IndyCar race from June 1-3 while, at the same time, he was not honouring his agreement with Trident Motorsport.
"Trident gave mandate to its lawyers in order to activate all the procedures needed to fully recover its credits towards the driver."
Trident has a week to finalise a replacement for Ferrucci in time for the next F2 round on the Hungarian Grand Prix support bill.
Autosport understands that Ferrucci has also been released by his management company, Julian Jakobi's GP Sports Management.
The real reasons ferrucci had a fallout with maini are personal matters. Ferrucci bullied the indian because of the skin color for the whole seasons and then the fight finished on track. When he understood that he would have been fired by his team he then webt crazy and had his subday of madness on sunday of silverstone. This is the real story behind it.
