Bottom post of the previous page:

So by my calculations, there are up to 65 points remaining at the final round next week.

Piastri is 51.5 points ahead of Shwartzman, and 64.5 points ahead of F1-bound Zhou.

Technically it could all be over by race 1.

Let's hope so, anyway ;).

A quick fingers and toes exercise agrees... :haha:

I do know this:

Points as of today:

Piastri. 213.5

Shwartzman. 162

Zhou 149

Ticktum 139.5
etc

Yes, maximum points grab per round (ie win 2x Sprint, 1 x feature race plus all F/L and bonus points) is 65.

As an aside this shows a breakdown of who has scored what points in each race per round https://www.fiaformula2.com/Standings/Driver

As an aside Doohan is 19th out of the 29 drivers who have taken part in F2 this year.

While Novalak outqualified him, Doohan spanked him in the races.

Also worth a mention...

Recent Williams Driver Academy signing Logan Sargeant also had his first F2 weekend in Jeddah.

He was rather poo. Q'ed 21st, R1 16th, R2 DNF, R3 14th. Admittedly, he was driving for the worst team - HWA Racelab.

Good grounding (with a shit team) to ready himself with an F1 future with Williams.

Update on Pourchaire and Fittipaldi

Pourchaire "fine", Fittipaldi suffers fractured heel after Jeddah F2 startline crash

Theo Pourchaire has confirmed that he is "fine" while Enzo Fittipaldi has sustained a fractured heel following the frightening Formula 2 start line crash in the feature race at Jeddah in which Pourchaire stalled on the grid and was then collected by an unsighted Fittipaldi.

Both drivers were conscious and extricated by medical crews before being transferred by ambulance and helicopter to King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital.

Pourchaire has since taken to social media to confirm that he escaped the incident unscathed.
"Hey everyone, Just wanted to tell you that I'm globally fine!," read a post on Pourchaire's social media channels.

"For the moment I don't know if it's already the end of the season for me. But the most important is not that, that was a really big one and Enzo is injured.

"I wish him the best recovery possible!"
An official update regarding Fittipaldi's condition is yet to be issued, although Enzo's brother Pietro Fittipaldi confirmed that Enzo is awake having escaped with only a fractured right heel.
"Hey everyone thanks for all the messages. Enzo is awake/alert and resting at the hospital," read a post of Pietro Fittipaldi's social media channels.

"He has a fracture in his right heel but thankfully things are much better than what we all expected.
Good welcome news.... Seeing the incident and then the lack of much news, and what we did hear being inconsistent at best was quite a worry. It could and to be honest I expected a far worse outcome, especailly the Fittialdi side of it.

The younger Fittipaldis aren't very lucky when it comes to leg injuries.

Pourchaire, Fittipaldi recovering from 72G impact

So yes, it has been confirmed the impact when Fittipaldi hit Pourchaire was clocked at 72G, so not the biggest impact in the world, but well beyond the critical 25G FIA level for medical sign off certification before driving again, and certainly enough to rattle a few fillings.

Pourchaire is basically ok other than in his words.... “I still have headaches, back pain, knees pain and left foot pain. But this is nothing compared to Enzo." He is expecting / hoping to be back behind the wheel this weekend. (If I was looking for a medical ok to race this weekend, I might not be telling the media I am having trouble with headaches..... just sayin.

As for Enzo he wont be back behind the wheel this weekend obviously.... as well as his fractured heel he has a few cuts and bruises as this from his Twitter feed shows.

Lucky lads the pair of them. They both dodged a bullet

Piastri on pole and Doohan 2nd in F2 qualy at Abu Dhabi. (Zhou 3rd and Shwartzman 4th)

Four more points for Piastri for pole!

Going into race 1 title standing is now:

Piastri 217.5
Shwartzman 162
Zhou 149.

I think Zhou is now out of the running

Just for info Theo Pourchaire who was involved in that awful startline crash last week is running this weekend, and was 6th in qualy.

Can I just say: fap.

Five poles in a row. Travesty that Oscar won't be in F1 next year.

And awesome for Doohan to qualify second in only his second round!

What OP needs to do to win the title this afternoon.

Just to quantify what Piastri has to do in the first Sprint race today to wrap up the title early..... any finish within 10 points of Shwartzman is all he needs .

In real terms if he finishes 4th even if Shwartzman wins and takes the F/L that is enough for OP to wrap it up after race 1.

Top 8 finishers get awarded points (15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1) with 2 bonus points for the F/L. If Piastri gets F/L (or if Shwartzman does not get it, but still wins), Piastri only needs to finish 5th.

Re Piastri's 5 poles in a row only one driver has ever managed that before in F1. Some guy called Leclerc.

Amazed at how low key he was about it all. My Woohoo when he won droned anything he uttered out!
Tough to think that wins FRenault, next year wins F3 and then the next (this) year wins the F2 title, and yet has nothing to race next year. Apart from fart around in a simulator, and maybe a Friday. Although I guess as official reserve if Ocon or Nando get Covid and have to miss a race he would step up, but that isnt really the way he would want to get his first GP.

Still, Alonso's contract is only for next year, so maybe he will retire. Ocon is I think signed long term through to end 2024, so unless Alpine put Piastri elsewhere.....

The thing is, they had their chance.

Either they don't care enough, or don't have enough money. Or both.
