Yeah, [x3]
I was right all along,
Yeah, [x3]
You come tagging along,
Exhibit A,
On a tray,
What you say,
Ends up thrown in your face,
Exhibit B,
What you see,
Well that's me,
I'll put you back in your place

Page Hamilton, lyrics for "I Know" (by Helmet):

Wafer thin, the waif is in
She's chlorine clean and portion fed
Feed the dog, slop the hog
Shine the Baptist and debark the log

It's all right, I know
You're the only one who can show us at all

Get it done and circulate
What I hear, fear motivates
So intense, so sensitive
In your head, where the fashion lives

It's all right, I know
You're the only one who can show us at all

It's okay, I know
You mean and hard, and bored
It's always, always, always
It's always something

Ozzy Osbourne: Spiral Architect (from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, by Black Sabbath)

Sorcerers of madness
Selling me their time
Child of God sitting in the sun
Giving peace of mind
Fictional seduction
On a black snow sky
Sadness kills the superman
Even fathers cry

Of all the things I value most of all
I look inside myself and see
My world and know that it is good
You know that I should

Superstitious century
Didnt time go slow
Separating sanity
Watching children grow
Synchronated undertaker
Spiral skies
Silver ships on plasmic oceans
In disguise

Of all the things I value most in life
I see my memories and feel their warmth
And know that they are good
You know that I should

Watching eyes of celluloid
Tell you how to live
Metaphoric motor-replay
Give, give, give!
Laughter kissing love
Is showing me the way
Spiral city architect
I build, you pay

Of all the things I value most of all
I look upon my earth and feel the warmth
And know that it is good

Syd Barrett: Octopus

This was his one truly nonsensical tour de force. And yet... I can find 10+ direct and more probable references to fantasy literature like Tolkien. The rest is a lot of bizarre fragments of natural impressions put into some sort of formal English. Psychedelic rock was over as a genre when he did these songs in his flat, by himself. Maybe he reached the true potential of it all.

---

trip to, heave and ho, up, down, to and fro
you have no word...
trip, trip, to a dream dragon
hide your wings in a ghost tower
sails cackling at every plate we break
struck by scattered needles
little mini gong coughs and clears his throat
madam you see before you stand
hey, ho, never be still
the old original favourite gran
grasshoppers green herbarian band
and the tune they play is "In Us Confide"...
so trip to, heave and ho, up, down, to and fro
you have no word...

please leave us here
close our eyes to the octopus ride!

isn't it good to be lost in the wood
isn't it bad, so quiet there, in the wood
meant even less to me than I thought
with a honey plough of yellow, prickly seeds
clover honey-pots and mystic shining feet...

well, the mad cat laughed at the man on the border
hey, ho, huff the talbot
cheap, he blam! shot a kangaroo
so true, in their tree they cried

please leave us here
close our eyes to the octopus ride!

the mad cat laughed at the man on the border
hey, ho, huff the talbot
winds they blew and the leaves did wag
and they'll never put me in their bag
the seas will reach and always see
so high you go, so low you creep
the wind it blows in tropical heat
the drones they throng on mossy seats
the squeaking door will always squeak
two up, two down, we'll never be meat
so merrily trip, and good my side
please leave us here
close our eyes to the octopus ride

Lou Reed - Andy's Chest had some interesting to say the least lyrics such as:
You have a hairy minded pink bare bear
What the fuck?

and -
Her belly button was her mouth
which meant she tasted what she'd speak, ooohhh
I think if some bizarre reason your belly button became your mouth, you wouldn't taste what you spoke.

Actually, the whole song was basically made up of nonsensical lyrics.
If I could be anything
in the world that flew
I would be a bat and come
swooping after you
And if the last time you were here
things were a bit askew

Well, you know what happens after dark
When rattlesnakes lose their skins and their hearts
And all the missionaries lose their bark

Oh, all the trees are calling after you
And all the venom snipers after you
Are all the mountains boulder after you

If I could be any one of the things
in this world that bite
Instead of a dentured ocelot on a leash
I'd rather be a kite
And be tied to the end of your string
and flying in the air, baby, at night

'Cause you know what they say about honey bears
When you shave off all their baby hair
You have a hairy minded pink bare bear

And all the bells are rolling out for you
And stones are all erupting out for you
And all the cheap bloodsuckers are flying after you

Yesterday, Daisy Mae and Biff
were groovin' on the street
And just like in a movie
her hands became her feet
Her belly button was her mouth
which meant she tasted what she'd speak, ooohhh

But the funny thing is what happened to her nose, ooohhh
It grew until it reached all of her toes, ooohhh
Now, when people say her feet smell, they mean her nose

And curtains laced with diamonds, dear for you
And all the Roman noblemen for you
And kingdom's Christian soldiers, dear for you
And melting ice cap mountains tops for you
Oh, oh, and knights in flaming silver robes for you
And bats that with a kiss turn prince for you
Swoop, swoop, oh, baby, rock, rock
Swoop, swoop, rock, rock
Swoop, swoop, rock, rock

I love the song, regardless of the lyrics. I loved the whole Transformer album tho....

Cream's White Room.
In the white room with black curtains near the station.
Black-roof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings.
Silver horses run down moonbeams in your dark eyes.
Dawn-light smiles on you leaving, my contentment.
I'll wait in this place where the sun never shines;
Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves.
You said no strings could secure you at the station.
Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows.
I walked into such a sad time at the station.
As I walked out, felt my own need just beginning.
I'll wait in the queue when the trains come back;
Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves.
At the party she was kindness in the hard crowd.
Consolation for the old wound now forgotten.
Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes.
She's just dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings.
I'll sleep in this place with the lonely crowd;
Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves.

Time for little known trivia.... 'White Room' was the opening track on Disc 1, the Studio disc of the of the 'Wheels of Fire Double Album' (Disc 2 was two solo performances per side to highlight their individual talents..... Ginger Baker / Toad, Jack Bruce / Traintime and Clapton doing Crossroads and Spoonful) Its in the middle of the montage photo, with other albums from a box of long lost LP's I found the other day after many years in storage.

Anyway, I digress..... As well as being on the album, the 7" single version of 'White Room' was also simultaneously (in thelate 60's) released in Europe, North America and Australasia. Whilst the single did not trouble the scorers much in the UK, the single actually topped, as in made it to #1 of the Australian 'Go-Set' National Charts, whilst also climbing to #2 in the New Zealand National Charts. It was the only time and country in which Cream ever snagged a #1 chart-topping single.

Mind you they had already been the top of the Australian Album charts the year before with their Disraeli Gears album. Despite their album popularity Oz was also the only market they ever topped the album chart in, AFAIK. Even though it was the first album in the UK to ever go Double Platinum it never actually made #1 in the UK weekly charts.

[/trivia crap]

Being the pround owner of Transformer since it first was released, I was gobsmacked when I today noticed on the sleeve for the first time ever, that the Transformer album was produced by David Bowie (and Mick Ronson). :omg:

I started to hunt around for info, and found this on Y/T. Plenty of footage of their (Reed & Bowie) working together including Bowie's 50th Birthday Bash, where they played together on stage.... I thought it was great and I learnt a lot I never knew, even as a diehard Lou Reed / Velvets fan of many decades.

Know we have quite a few Lou Reed / Velvets fans here and thought others might also be interested, so posted it here:

This is several songs in one, a delightful psychedelic bouquet, as it were. It's a socio-sexual comment based on an LSD trip. Dylan's in there, so is Syd's Floyd, R&B, old school sweaty negro blues, and allusions to the "pop art" (misnomer) of the times (W. Burroughs for instance) and hippie cuture, et cetera. From Bowie's first album, I'm rediscovering him lately, always had a great regard for his work in 70s music. Can't say the same after that, tho.

---

"Unwashed And Somewhat Slightly Dazed"

Spy, spy, pretty girl
I see you see me through your window
Don't turn your nose up
Well, you can if you need to, you won't be the first or last

It must strain you to look down so far from your father's house
And I know what a louse like me in his house could do for you
I'm the Cream
Of the Great Utopia Dream
And you're the gleam
In the depths
of your banker's spleen

I'm a phallus in pigtails
And there's blood on my nose
And my tissue is rotting
Where the rats chew my bones
And my eye sockets empty
See nothing but pain
I keep having this brainstorm
About twelve times a day
So now, you could spend the morning walking with me, quite amazed
As I'm Unwashed
and Somewhat Slightly Dazed

I got eyes in my backside
That see electric tomatoes
On credit card rye bread
There are children in washrooms
Holding hands with a queen
And my heads full of murders
Where only killers scream
So now you could spend the morning talking with me quite amazed
Look out, I'm raving mad and Somewhat Slightly Dazed

Now you run from your window
To the porcelain bowl
And you're sick from your ears
To the red parquet floor
And the Braque on the wall
Slides down your front
And eats through your belly
It's very catching
So now, you should spend the mornings lying to your father quite amazed
About the strange Unwashed and Happily Slightly Dazed.
