Jesper Hvid wrote: 10 years agoCecil Aagaard (singer) was a Norwegian jazz vocalist genius, and Leo "The Lion" Mathiesen (piano/cigars/composer) was a Danish living legend, until the Wehrmacht censored him, and 30 seconds later, he was a legend once more, all he did was scat the lyrics, instead (as English was suddenly totally verboten), and then the people would jive, all the same.
Finally found it, again. Hadn't seen it it since the mid-'80s.

7:54-10:21. Totally not verboten, as long as it's not in English... "Decadent n*****-jazz" OK, tho. He's actually egging on the Danish resistance in a bizarre way that you couldn't possibly grasp, but it's there, and quite in overtones ("hang a nazi, dah-dah...", *makes stabbing motion*, etc.). :haha:

Probably in my top-10 of the most absurd cultural things, ever.

Hard to beat the Beatles...

"I read the news today, oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall"

Cool video BTW.

And of course (though it was deliberate):

OOOOH and Duran Duran?

"The reflex is a lonely child, who's waiting by the park
The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark
And watching over lucky clover, isn't that bizarre?
And every little thing the reflex does
Leaves you answered with a question mark"

INDEED!

I noticed Duran Duran playing live on stage outside Buckingham Palace during the Queen's Platinum Jubillee bash.

They did Notorious and Girls on Film.

In fact found on YT:

Heh, I was a Spandau Ballet girl anyway :D

I haven't yet managed to watch the whole Jubilee concert, apart from some short videos. IMHO they picked a totally wrong piece for Hamilton (the Founding Father, not the driver, as I have to explain to my friends everytime the topic of musicals comes out). I think "My Shot" would have been more fitting.

The Queen graciously participated in a hilarious skit with Paddington Bear, but most videos cut it short before the actual concert begins, so for days I thought I had hallucinated QE2 playing "We Will Rock You" with her spoon and cup of tea. I hadn't. Think what you will about the Royals, but the Queen playing Queen was simply historical. Here's the full video. The infamous moment is after 2"00':

Excellent. Thanks. Indeed I had not seen the full sketch, only up to the Marmalade sandwich part. Brilliant. Quite a lady. And a sense of mischievous humour not often (if ever) seen.   God save the Queen.
