Loved the driving bass lines... RIP Greg Ridley. He has been gone a long time now but achieved a lot in a relatively short career.

As well as being a founder member of Humble Pie he founded Spooky Tooth, with Gary Wright amongst others, but left after Spooky2, (this was on that album, and later covered by Judas Priest) asked by Marriot to set up Humble Pie .... .

Marriott was approached by Jimmy Page for the New Yardbirds' lineup, and Pagey was told by Marriott's agents that he should leave Stevie alone, "unless you (i.e. Page) fancy playing your guitar with broken fingers" (from the book: "Led Zeppelin in their Own Words"). That became Plant's big chance, really. Him and Bonham from the Band of Joy were 2nd choices (Keith Moon was desired for drums, but infamously declined, coming up with the "lead ballon"-joke that LZ used ironically, for their name). Or maybe it was John Entwistle, it's not quite clear. But the ideal New Yardbirds supergroup concept, as envisioned by Jimmy Page, would have been Page, Entwistle, Moon and Marriott. I believe fate intervened with very good cause and immense wisdom, and find the alternative result quite satisfactory, and I expect to receive the Understatement of the Year-Award for that. Page's house burned down, and so did Marriott's, unfortunately with him in it. I would have liked to have seen him live, but that happened back in 1991. I'd still rate Marriott among the top 10 greatest ever rock singers.

One of my fave live albums is Thin Lizzy's 'Live And Dangerous'.

Thanks @Jesper Hvid for the detail... It always intrigues me the way that future stars on their rising skip from one band to another, on their 'stairway to heaven' (sorry about that one  ) The stories behind some of the moves are often quite a laugh too. (ie Keith Moon / Led Zep which I was not aware of). Who was rooting someones sister, wife, or got pissed / high with someone who introduced x to y. If they had talent it was almost a case of who you knew / met rather than what you knew got them the introduction that changed their lives and of course benefited us as fans. I guess it was early day social networking. I wont say social media....

Im sure I have posted this before but it was the Saints, I think the band I first watched live when I moved to Aus, in a Richmond pub long gone.

Another favourite track they did was 'Just Like Fire Would' . (Later covered by Springsteen IIRC.)

The underwhelming crowd is probably not that amazing, but the sound for once is.
One of Radio Bremen's Rockarchive classics. Happy Weekend everyone !

Hehehe went to see Free play at the Guildford Civic Centre in 1970. A crowd friends, all on motorbikes went! One of the first concerts I had been to. Brilliant band. Great venue.
Fire and Water was one of my first album purchases. Also then bought All Right Now.

A bit of trivia for you.... Free wrote All Right Now in the dressing room backstage at the Guildford Civic!
They had some great acts over the years there (the Civic), from Elvis Costello to Genesis and the Clash, who played with the Jam as back up band on the programme. The Stranglers, a local band, were banned from the venue for causing a riot! I seem to recall they returned in later years. Eric Clapton would often make impromptu guest slots there.
