Bottom post of the previous page:

Michael Ferner wrote: 3 years ago Are you perhaps thinking of Nelson Piquet, Brasil 1981? He famously started on slicks on a full wet track, slipped way back but recovered to be in the top ten again mid-race, before another rain shower washed away all his chances. I'm not sure, but he may have stayed with the slicks until the end, by which time he was several laps in arrears.
Yes

Jones was laughing until reutemann didn't let him past for the win

Piquet did prosper mid race, up to 4th? But then the rain came down again. It's difficult to tell without a lap chart, it's possible he may just be unlapping himself from surer. He never changed strategy and like you say ended up looking like a chump after a few spins. A fairly ignominious home race . I guess it could have been different if it hadn't started pissing down again, but he should have known the local weather!

Did I see Jones make the same mistake with a premature stop for slicks at imola just a couple of races later? I haven't read the report yet. There's the unusual sight of a Theodore trying to get past a Williams

Why do some commentators at The Race say Bono Hweeeeezzz instead of Bono Huis?

In two successive races in F1 we saw the crazy sight of an ambulance/emergency vehicle driving on the circuit, while the race continued full pelt with drivers overtaking it. Which races?

That was pretty normal until the late seventies/early eighties. Probably more difficult to find two successive races without ambulances on the track... :(

I've only seen what I described in these two races, though going back to the 70's footage is more difficult to find.

Clue in there somewhere

There were emergency vehicles driving on Indycar circuits well into the 90s while the race remained green. And then this would happen:

Without looking it up or watching the video linked, can you name the team this car was fielded by?

Just seen the question.... a stab in the dark but I reckon Riccardo Paletti would be the only one that fits.

That seems unlikely, IIRC Paletti was moving before the car caught fire long after the initial impact.

Maybe Murray simply meant "it wasn't the fire that killed him", which was true.

I must admit that is the way I read it.

My understanding is Paletti actually died from internal injuries.
