Bottom post of the previous page:

kals wrote:Yes I agree, the 1995 McLaren was pretty foul. I still LOL at remembering Mansell's comment at the launch "If it goes as quick as it looks". HAHA :haha:
Even without the "mid-wing", it looked awful. I remember the way it was displayed at the launch didn't exactly flatter it either. Mansell soon came to realise that it also "fitted my physique as well as it looks"!

The last picture of the Forti:

The nose looks like it was made out of clay and squeezed. o.o'

The Wolf WR5, as driven by Jody Scheckter in 1978, was not very pleasing to the eye, either. This was accentuated by memories of the more flowing lines of its predecessor, which won three races in 1977.

You mean this one?

Yeah, compared to the previous years car it does look like a bit of a dog.

That's the car. Thanks for posting the pic. Not only did it look less appealing than the '77 car, it was much slower and less reliable, too.

Yes the Wolf, cockpit forward, reminds me of the Ensign N179 ('79) with the ladder front.

It doesn't look too bad until you realize that big boxy cockpit. It's a good thing this thing never entered a beauty contest of any sort....

That seemed to be a trend in the late 1970s, and not a very healthy one!

As a boring technical addition to the conversation (I seriously don't know why I know this), the last picture of the Forti (with the low 'droop' nose) was how the car was originally - as the season went on they 'upgraded' it to the higher one seen in the two pictures posted by kals.

Of course, the car itself was upgraded from a 1992 Fondemetal chassis. I seem to remember that it took them three quarters of the year to even sort out an automatic gearbox!

that was an attempt to side pods for ground effects. On the WR1 the radiators were in a vertical position beside the engine. To make room for venturi tunnels it was moved in front of the cockpit. A similiar idea had been used on the Lotus 78, before the radiators were placed inside the wing shaped pods in oblique position

We have to say that Lotus arrived at a more elegant and pleasing solution than the Wolf team did!

It may well have had function, but it does nothing to add beauty.

It is definitely more distinctive and interesting than most of the F1 cars of the last fifteen years....

The Elephant Man was distinctive and interesting, but hardly a 'good look'
