Thanks! It's a shame that none of the banking is still there...as far as I remember, it was demolised the 1960s. 1967 or something like that.

Lovely photos!
Indeed it is quite sad to not see much of the original Avus there.
Have you considered of putting your photos in the www.racingcircuits.net website? As there is a growing photo section of old and abandoned track in there.

I just came back from a 6 days long sightseeing tour through Berlin, Potsdam and Prague. I took a lot of pictures, however I only managed to take one picture and one video when we passed the Berlin AVUS with our car. sebbbl's pictures are a lot better, and probably it's completely useless to post these here, but anyway, here you go:
The one and only picture I took, showing the Mercedes tower:
Short video (ca. 1min), taken from the backseat of our car while passing the old grandstands. Sorry for the bad quality, but the video feature of my digital camera isn't very good...

At least this should be something new to you:
Picture of a metal postcard I bought in Berlin, showing an advert of the 1965 Formula 3 AVUS race:

Ok, I doubt it, but maybe there's someone who still finds this footage interessting...
Btw, thanks to sebbbl for the pictures, as I only passed the AVUS in the car, I haven't seen most of the buildings which are on your pictures.

This is where the banking was...bbgunn wrote:Sebbbl - correct me if I'm wrong.sebbbl wrote:My photos are ONLINE here...
Is this the section where the banking was, or was this the other end?
I was too lazy to walk the 4-5 km the the Südkehre (but I'll do that this year...)

It brings those of us that are not too close
to that area a glimpse of racing history.
I know of old racetracks around here that townhouses are now built on
top of!
