Looked for sure like a missed gearshift.
Probably all of the above, Alesi missed a gear change and Werner could not avoid running in and giving him a nudge.

Hehehe some confusion over the red flag timing. If it goes back a lap.... but Alesi never reached the line and stopped just short.

Looks like Werner has been penalised and Lyons is now the winner. Anyway Lyons is on the top step and Werner is not even standing on the podium.

That is wrong if Alesi did miss a gear change or had an issue that caused Werner to run into him.

Very strange.
I think there is no way for the stewards to tell what happened aside from interviewing the drivers (no telemetry on 1970's era cars). If Alesi does not admit to missing a gear or slowing, it becomes Werner's fault and hence the penalty. I think realizing that is why Werner was so pissed off at the ceremony. He knows Alesi slowed, because he came through Nouges that same way for several laps prior.

All in this was a great Historics this year! The 77-80 F1 cars were great as well. Thanks for sharing the links!!

What are the entry rules? No championship winners? Why did we not see the 78 Lotus or the 79 Ferrari's? Also no Renault turbos?

Terrific race with the 1973-1976 cars. Magnificent.

Meanwhile, for the 1977-1980 cars - got to love unreliability. *nudge nudge Liberty/FIA*

I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed all the races.

As for the limited field many of the UK entries in particular were lean because of the Covid related travel restrictions and quarantine on return. Not quite sure how some of them even managed to get round the restrictions but I presume it is a money talks thing. I dont see how an overweight fairly mature semi retired gentleman who could not run if his life depended on it classifies as a professional elite sportsman! :haha:

But I am thankful we got the cars and racing that we did. Regardless of the Covid restrictions. I guess many of them own property in Monaco or have Monaco registered businesses for tax reasons so have found some loophole in the system. :dunno:

It's just stupid how much more enjoyable it is to watch this over current cars.

In this footage of the Werner Alesi incident you can clearly hear Alesi miss a gear and the revs rise, with the result Weerner had nowhere to go.

If you look at the shadow of the rear wing on the start/finish straight, you can see the camera. Well, it's shadow anyway.

Yeah, right, I can see that shadow, but i can't see where the camera's fixed at. Digitally erased? I notice how the rear aerofoil doesn't seem straight - maybe an effect thereof?

Might as well post this info here as we have a number of those who enjoyed the Monaco Historique over the weekend.
This coming weekend we have another major Historic Meeting..... the Donington Historic Festival.
It is also being live streamed.

Quite a good line up of Sports, Touring Cars to Formula Junior and (pre-66) F1 cars. There will be many GT40's out running for the Chris Amon Trophy, an 80 minute 2 driver race.

More info here: http://www.doningtonhistoric.com/the-races/

Very interesting and thanks @Mawerick for sharing.
Don't you love technology. Even if it is too fancy for F1.
