2021 Historics
2021 Monaco GP Historique.
23-25 April 2021
The event which is normally every two years, was scheduled for last year but cancelled due to Covid. Well, postponed in reality as it is due to take place this weekend.
Always a great sight to see all the old cars of various categories racing round the track, andd like its modern cousin, is always a hot spot for racing Royalty to attend and indeed take part.
This weekend's Historic Monaco Grand Prix weekend will have a special Ferrari theme in celebration of the 70 anniversary of its first grand win with Jose Froilan Gonzalez in 1951, with many of the Scuderia’s greatest F1 and sports cars gracing streets which first saw F1 action back in 1929.
With 96 cars in total on track, the entire weekend is a veritable smorgasbord for fans of historic racing, and will also see grand prix legends such as Jean Alesi and Rene Arnoux driving.
Not sure quite how the event is being held this year tbh given the current situation in France but it is.
Im sure there will be a few cars short because of it but at least it is on.
There will be a live stream commencing tomorrow Saturday supposedly starting at just after 13:00 CET, on this youtube link
In fact I have two different links so maybe one is in French. Try them both to find what suits you best.
Event website: https://acm.mc/en/edition/grand-prix-de ... ique-2021/
The event will see seven different categories of racing, from pre-war fire-breathing monsters to 1980s F1 flyers.
A Series -pre-war cars / voiturettes
B Series – front-engined F1 cars (1946 – 1960)
C Series – front-engined sports racing cars (1952-1957)
D Series – 1500cc Formula 1 cars (1961-1965)
E Series – F1 cars up to 3 litres (1966-1972)
F Series – F1 (1973-76)
G Series – Formula 1 cars (1977-80)
As mentioned Jean Alesi and René Arnoux, both former Ferrari F1 winners, will be driving a pair of Ferrari 312B3s, as campaigned by Jacky Ickx and Arturo Merzario in 1973.
The 17-car grid will also include a 1973 McLaren M23, 1974 Tyrrell 007, 1975 Shadow DN5 and 1976 McLaren M26.

Plenty of pics and videos available from the website media pages. Practice is today with the event proper starting tomorrow.

Love the commentators stories about best and worst commentator booths!

Alex Caffi just wrecked a 1969 Ferrari into the back of John Love's old '67 Cooper. Hate to see it.

I think one of these commentators either just walked in off the street, or has dementia.

that's Andrew Marriot, he should stick to just telling his stories and not try to make live commentary these days.

"I haven't seen that car before at a historic meeting."
"It's been around for years now."
"I haven't seen this driver before."
"He's also been around for a while now."
"Why's there red water coming out of the Ferrari?"
"... Coolant isn't water."
"Why's there debris on the track?"
"FML. It's from the crash... That you called... A minute ago..."

So he was the one talking about the "Ferrari Triton badge" when he saw Maserati's racing around?
And Rene Arnoux just banged up the Ferrari 312B against the armco and lost a rear wheel in the process.

Great to see Jean Alesi in 'the other ' ex Lauda Ferrari is giving it heaps in the qualifying session. Plenty of opposite lock , but sadly got held up in traffic at the end of his lap. 2nd fastest atm though.
Marco Werner is going well in the JPS Lotus 77, who is I think fastest atm.

He did hit the barrier just before Rascasse though, you could see the fence wobble.Everso Biggyballies wrote: ↑3 years agoGreat to see Jean Alesi in 'the other ' ex Lauda Ferrari is giving it heaps in the qualifying session. Bit of a shame to see Arnoux in the barrier, and the Ferrari 312 driven by Caffi had a crash earlier as well. Good to see them being driven hard though.

Alesi was pushing very hard, maybe if he had not found traffic he would have been on pole

Does anybody know if there's a balance of performance between the cars? I mean the M26 should be faster than the others like Embassy, Surtees, Alesi's Ferrari etc...
