I think there is no way for the stewards to tell what happened aside from interviewing the drivers (no telemetry on 1970's era cars). If Alesi does not admit to missing a gear or slowing, it becomes Werner's fault and hence the penalty. I think realizing that is why Werner was so pissed off at the ceremony. He knows Alesi slowed, because he came through Nouges that same way for several laps prior.Everso Biggyballies wrote: ↑3 years agoProbably all of the above, Alesi missed a gear change and Werner could not avoid running in and giving him a nudge.
Hehehe some confusion over the red flag timing. If it goes back a lap.... but Alesi never reached the line and stopped just short.
Looks like Werner has been penalised and Lyons is now the winner. Anyway Lyons is on the top step and Werner is not even standing on the podium.
That is wrong if Alesi did miss a gear change or had an issue that caused Werner to run into him.
Very strange.
All in this was a great Historics this year! The 77-80 F1 cars were great as well. Thanks for sharing the links!!
What are the entry rules? No championship winners? Why did we not see the 78 Lotus or the 79 Ferrari's? Also no Renault turbos?
