I wonder if Alesi missed a gear or if Werner clipped him.

Shit Alesi has stopped with damage but I dont know if there wqs contact from Werner or something broke on the Ferrari.

Anyway it ends what was a great dice.

The Lotus does look like it has a bit of damage on the front wing. I think Werner has got too close and accidentally put Alesi into the wall.

It got red flagged after the Durex Surtees got into tankslapper after Casino going down the hill and rattled the barriers pretty hard.

I'm guessing the Ferrari has a dogleg gearbox, so Alesi would've been shifting to 4th but put it in 2nd instead, breaking the rear tyres loose.

Probably all of the above, Alesi missed a gear change and Werner could not avoid running in and giving him a nudge.

Hehehe some confusion over the red flag timing. If it goes back a lap.... but Alesi never reached the line and stopped just short.

Looks like Werner has been penalised and Lyons is now the winner. Anyway Lyons is on the top step and Werner is not even standing on the podium.

That is wrong if Alesi did miss a gear change or had an issue that caused Werner to run into him.

Very strange.

What a shame to see so many cars damaged in a short space of time.

Yeah not a pretty sight.

The 1977-1980 ground effects cars are lined up ready to go out. Looking forward to these as well. Hopefully another race like the last one. Nice to see cars with proper steering wheels and not something covered in buttons and dials to turn.

Always liked the Essex livery on the Lotus.

Someone has stalled at the entrance to the tunnel on the outlap. Should be easy to push start.

True, although it's better to see them used for their intended purpose rather than sitting in a museum.

Seems the Mezario cant be started and has been pushed away behind the barriers.

Yea, agreed, a combination of both and so it really should've been ruled a racing incident, I guess but oh well.

I think there is no way for the stewards to tell what happened aside from interviewing the drivers (no telemetry on 1970's era cars). If Alesi does not admit to missing a gear or slowing, it becomes Werner's fault and hence the penalty. I think realizing that is why Werner was so pissed off at the ceremony. He knows Alesi slowed, because he came through Nouges that same way for several laps prior.

All in this was a great Historics this year! The 77-80 F1 cars were great as well. Thanks for sharing the links!!

What are the entry rules? No championship winners? Why did we not see the 78 Lotus or the 79 Ferrari's? Also no Renault turbos?
