Steve McQueen - The Lost Movie
Did anyone see this on Sky UK's Sky Documentary channel last week? It told the story of Warner Bros. rival film to 'Grand Prix' which only got as far as some on-track filming at The Nurburgring and Oulton Park in 1965, before being shut down as it was clear it wasn't going to be finished / released before Grand Prix. I didn't know they had actually got any filming done but the previously unseen footage was amazing, particularly the onboard stuff at the 'Ring in '65.
Well worth a watch if you can get to see it.

Yea, it's quite good. I literally knew nothing about the project other than it was the reason why Grand Prix didn't have any Nurburgring footage but the documentary goes into so much detail about everything that went down including a lot of previously unseen footage, and it's all so well presented.

I managed to watch it tonight. Brilliant. I have to confess not knowing much about it before watching it. A fascinating story and some good footage not seen before.JBT wrote: ↑3 years ago Did anyone see this on Sky UK's Sky Documentary channel last week? I also had no idea about this. I can't watch the documentary in Japan so I will have to find a download somewhere, it sounds interesting.
Here's some wonderful footage from the movie (unlisted on YouTube):

I had no idea that was there.
Presumably, they have footage of an entire lap, unless the camera ran out of tape. I would LOVE to see that!

One of the helicopter shots showed a sort of small track layout around the entrance to the bottom of the righd side of the Kottenborn bridge. Seemed to be a strange place to put one, especially as the valley dropoff seemed to come right up to the edge of it. Wonder what it was? RC cars didn't come round for another 10ish years so it couldn't have been for that. Kids pedal kart track maybe?
Hope the doc does show up outside of Sky so everyone can see it.

This is a great film! I had no idea how far they got with this film and it is heartbreaking that it was never made. I had heard a rumor that he had started but failed to make an F1 film, but had no idea this existed or how close he got until now. Thanks for sharing this information!

Not being able to complete this movie pretty much lead directly to McQueen doing Le Mans in 1970/71.
