I thought they might not be him which is why I wrote they were said to be him. I had an inkling you would be able to confirm one way or the other so thanks for the confirmation.Theo Fitzau, 1953 German GP entrant

sebbbl is correct.
I've done the deepest internet search ever looking for information on Fitzau. I know his old address in Köthen and his father's place of business. I know his family history dating back to the 18th Century. I know the names of his father, his uncle, his mother. I have found a book by Michael Schramme written on the family. I've seen the soap his father produced. Then I found this interview in the deepest, darkest archives of the DDR press.
If his face was out there on the internet - which is all I was looking for all this time - I would have found it long, long ago

And a photo of him was in a box in my cupboard all the time... But I was not aware.
I'm still in touch with Paul Greifzu's daughter -maybe she has more information...

Let's just confirm the faces of the people at Greifzu's funeral so we can rule them out:
Kurt Straubel
Arthur Rosenhammer
Kurt Baum
Rudi Krause
Hermann Kathrein
No photo of Jürgen Perduss, and Klodwig is on the previous page. It must be Fitzau

Unbelievable
If you have any alternative photos of Rudi Krause and Ernst Klodwig, could you post those too please? The two I have posted are the only photos of them in existence (online, anyway).
I'm working with uechtel on an article on the drivers of the 1952/1953 German Grand Prix...

Here's Jürgen Perduss at the start of the 1952 race at the Bernauer Schleife - he came home 2nd.

This is kind of frustrating. Don't you think he looks quite a lot like this guy?

I've tried to compare the two pictures. At the peak of the procession there're his racing-fellows: Kurt Straubel (front); left backwards: Arthur Rosenhammer, Kurt Baum, Rudi Krause, Herman Kathrein and Jürgen Perduß; right backwards: Ernst Klodwig and Theo Fitzau. Back middle: Theo Helfrich.
This is what I got (I hope all is right):
Straubel:
Rosenhammer:
Baum (not visible in the second photo):
Krause (judging by the hair):
This is another image of him:
Kathrein (I think it's him: I may be wrong. It appears he has changed position from the first to the second photo):
Perduss/Perduß:
Klodwig:
Helfrich (I'm not sure it's him, but look at the hair: they're the same):
And this should be Fitzau:
I'm not sure about Helfrich, Kathrein and Fitzau: what do you think?

These are not the same man. Between both photos are only 10 days and Fitzau has much "softer" facial characteristics.
This is Perduss:

Thank you, I looked at the caption, which didn't mention Barth (I should have guessed it).sebbbl wrote: ↑6 years ago @Motorsportrace , thank you for the comparison!
