Apparently Fernando Alonso has done what some of the other drivers would like to do, he's complained loudly about the way F1 is being run. He's been reported to the stewards for his comments, at the moment I haven't heard where he's had any punishment for speaking his mind.
Fernando Alonso has accused Formula 1's governing body of "incompetence" and lacking knowledge of racing.
Full story here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/61523371

Having read what I said, I have to say I have some sympathy with him. He's just saying what many others seem to be thinking and when asked to comment, Lando Norris didn't outright agree with him but he more or less said that he did.

He was 2nd last time I looked but now he has dropped to 8th! Times are still about 2 seconds lower than what I expect them to be tomorrow afternoon.

Yeah in my case they need to pick up nearly 2.5 seconds tomorrow!

George and Lewis jumped to 2nd and 3rd and not a porpoise in sight. Between Leclerc at the top and Sainz in 4th.

Norris hasnt done many laps and keeps running off through the gravel. He's last and Danny Ric not much better. They were both top 10 in P1 so not sure whats going on there.

They're around where I expected them to be for the time I put in for pole. Though of course anything could happen bewteen now and then :dunno:

Not thrilled at seeing the Mercedes pair too near the front again already, I was enjoying a break from them being up there. As I type this, Russell is still faster than Hamilton though, interesting.

Norris has broken his floor running wide explains his poor time and Bottas is up for a new power unit by the sound of it.

I think Seb leading the field was more he was the first to run the softs. As soon as others bolted on softs he plummeted down the order. Still 8th but a second off the pace

Leclerc and Sainz with George and Lewis between them is the order still and will likely end that way.

Good step forward for them though, if this is truly their order in the rankings.

That's still half a second off their best pace during pre-season testing at the same track. Not looking into these times much at all at the moment. (That's my way of saying I hope they are not really this quick lol)

One thing is for sure - that Ferrari looks quick. And Mercedes 2nd and 3rd is a worry. Mind you George was fastest at this stage in Miami. Still George ahead of Lewis though. Interestingly neither Merc set their time on soft rubber.

In fact Leclerc Perez and Vettel are the only ones in the top 10 that did run softs.

For those interested the Pau Historic GP is on live stream atm.

If you click on the link and go back 1 hour 30 you can catch the F1, F2 F5000 qualifying. That session is finished now if you go live but wind it back. you can see real cars at Pau.

Just. sayin.....

The only problem is they seem to be using aa series of fixed cameras and the focus is a bit out. :tearful:

The weekend timetable of events is here: https://www.grandprixdepau.fr/en/pau-cl ... x/program/

The categories racing are here https://www.grandprixdepau.fr/en/pau-cl ... g-program/

It seems it has happened..... not 100% but the updates have ironed out the porpoising pretty much. But still other issues.

Hamilton: Mercedes "way better" as F1 upgrades dial out porpoising

Lewis feels Mercedes is on its way to getting back to the front of Formula 1, after upgrades in Spain helped it dial out much of its porpoising problems.
Russell ended up second fastest in the more representative afternoon session, just 0.117 seconds adrift of pace-setting Charles Leclerc, while Hamilton was just one tenth further back.

But beyond the lap times, both drivers were mostly happy with how the feel of the Mercedes W13 had been transformed, and that most of the porpoising troubles that have marred its start to 2022 had been banished.

Speaking after the session, Hamilton said:
“I’m positive, yeah. Super happy with the progress, so a big, big, big, big thank you to everyone back at the factory for not giving up and for continuing to push.

“We're not the quickest yet, but I think we're on our way. It's the first time we've driven down the straight without bouncing. We still have some bouncing, but it’s way better.”

Russell said the W13 felt different from how it was before as a result of the tweaks that have been made to it for this weekend.

“The car is definitely reacting differently,” he explained. “We've got different limitations this time. We definitely don't have the porpoising on the straight, which is good, but we're still experiencing a bit here and there in the corners, which ultimately you need to dial out.”

Lol indeed they are just showing the green Red Bull on the Sky broadcast now. Apparently Red Bull are a bit miffed.
FIA clears Aston Martin over Red Bull F1 car design similarities after investigation

The FIA has cleared Aston Martin after carrying out an investigation into the similarities between its updated Formula 1 car and Red Bull’s car ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix.

The FIA noticed during a “routine pre-event legality check” of the planned Aston Martin updates, “it became apparent that a number of features on the Aston Martin resembled those of another Competitor”. :suspicious:

This led to an investigation of the car to confirm compliance with (Article 17.3 of) the technical regulations, relating to reverse engineering and "potential illicit IP transfer”.

The FIA found that Aston Martin had complied with the regulations through its process.... so all good and kosher.l.
“The investigation, which involved CAD checks and a detailed analysis of the development process adopted by Aston Martin, confirmed that no wrongdoing had been committed, and therefore the FIA considers that the Aston Martin aerodynamic upgrades are compliant,” the statement from the FIA reads.

“Article 17.3 specifically defines and prohibits “Reverse Engineering”, i.e. the digital process of converting photographs (or other data) to CAD models, and prohibits IP transfer between teams, but equally, this Article permits car designs getting influenced by those of competitors, as has always been the case in Formula 1.

“In the analysis we carried out we confirmed that the processes followed by Aston Martin were consistent with this Article’s requirements.”
The fine line re IP is that staff transfer is covered.... in a nutshell whats in your head is ok, what you sneak out on a portable HD isnt.
(A number of Red Bull staff, including former head of aerodynamics Dan Fallows, have made the switch to Aston Martin in recent months. Fallows did his spell in the garden and started as Aston Martin’s technical director on 2 April.)
