Bottom post of the previous page:

Great little qualifying session.

1. Love Lando.
2. Sainz: most the time looks like he is not trying that hard, until he suddenly cranks out a very fast lap. Ferrari was wise to "split" their engine change strategy.
3. Russell: The first of many qualifying sessions ahead of Hamilton?

Nice to see a top three three line up that does not include a Mercedes or a Red Bull.

4. Hamilton: Trying too hard. This is his race to loose. Working hard to make that happen. The story more impressive than the McLaren return to form is the return of Williams.
5. Ricciardo: He looked out of sorts. Still struggling to understand why he is struggling.
6. Alonso: The Man.

8/11: Stroll/Vettel: Noted.

20. Verstappen: I will continue to make the argument that Red Bull made a mistake by changing the engine this race. He certainly could have qualified in the top three, taken his 3-place penalty, and started the race on Hamilton's tail.

Anyhow, Hamilton sort of needs to win this race. That is going be tricky with three cars in front of him at the start. Sort of needs to get around Russell and Sainz early on and be sitting on Norris' tail before the first pit stop. With the track being dryer tomorrow, Mercedes should have more of an advantage over the three teams in front than they did in qualifying.

I gather weather will be "dry" tomorrow with maybe some showers. This is means that running off line may be tricky. Going to make it harder to pass, and make it particularly hard for drivers in the back to move up the field (LeClerc and Verstappen).

Should be a good race tomorrow. Looking forward to it. So nice to be able to talk about someone other than a Mercedes or a Red Bull driver.

Could have. My comments questioning the wisdom of the engine change are not hindsight.

Could make for a very interesting 2022. Russell does seem to have the ability to get that extra something out of a car, especially in the wet.

I like the look of the grid, could make for an interesting race again. At least Hamilton and Max won't be on the track together at the start so we'll be spared the spectacle of them taking one another off then. Great effort by George Russell again and good on Lando Norris.

I actually think Lando stands a chance of winning this if a) he has a good start and b) he covers Lewis during pitstops.

Lewis's starts have been poor this season, and with the added pressure of being down the grid, I wouldn't be surprised if he fell back at the start

It's really time for Hamilton to have a dose of bad luck. I vote stroll ploughing into him at turn 1

I'd quite like Hamilton to fail through no fault of anyone but himself. I don't want to give the fanboys excuses.

What would happen to the grid penalties if tomorrows race was not even started?

I assume they get carried over as there hasn't been an event?

I still remember when Felipe Massa was given a 10 place grid penalty for "the next race", so Sauber subbed him for as Frentzen wouldn't have to take the penalty, and Massa could return penalty free as it was for F1s next race, and not Massa's next race!

Mighty impressive by Russell. Showing Spa was no fluke with perfect conditions for his run.

Very nice work by Norris.

Mercedes have fitted a new PU to Bottas' car, no doubt so they can fuck about with Max's progress up the field.

I think Max has a really tough day ahead of him with Bottas and Leclerc around him, and Mazepin a few cars up the road as well, who we all know is a total liability.
