...and 2 penalty points. I think it was a racing incident, but that's not too bad of a penalty.Everso Biggyballies wrote: ↑2 years ago 3 grid spot penalty for Max.... to be served a Sochi in two weeks time.

9 - 12 September 2021
The Stewards, having received a report from the Race Director, summoned (documents 55, 56) and
heard from the drivers and team representatives, have considered the following matter and
determine the following:
No / Driver 33 - Max Verstappen
Competitor Red Bull Racing Honda
Time 16:10
Session Race
Fact Collision with car 44 in turn 2.
Offence Breach of Article 2 (d) Chapter IV Appendix L of the FIA International Sporting Code.
Decision 3 Grid Place Drop at the driver’s next event.
(2 penalty points imposed, total of 2 points in the 12 month period)
Reason The Stewards heard from the driver of car 33 (Max Verstappen), the driver of car 44
(Lewis Hamilton) and team representatives, reviewed the video evidence and
determined that the driver of Car 33 was predominantly to blame for the collision with
Car 44 at Turn 2.
Car 44 was exiting the pits. Car 33 was on the main straight. At the 50m board before
Turn 1, Car 44 was significantly ahead of Car 33. Car 33 braked late and started to
move alongside Car 44, although at no point in the sequence does Car 33 get any
further forward than just behind the front wheel of Car 44.
During the hearing the driver of Car 33 asserted that the cause of the incident was
the driver of Car 44 opening the steering after Turn 1 and “squeezing” him to the
apex of turn 2. The driver of Car 44 asserted that the driver of Car 33 attempted to
pass very late and should have given up the corner either by backing off sooner, or
by turning left behind the kerb.
The Stewards observed on CCTV footage that the driver of Car 44 was driving an
avoiding line, although his position caused Car 33 to go onto the kerb. But further, the
Stewards observed that Car 33 was not at all alongside Car 44 until significantly into
the entry into Turn 1. In the opinion of the Stewards, this manoeuvre was attempted
too late for the driver of Car 33 to have “the right to racing room”. While Car 44 could
have steered further from the kerb to avoid the incident, the Stewards determined that
his position was reasonable and therefore find that the driver of Car 33 was
predominantly to blame for the incident
.
In coming to the penalty the Stewards emphasise that they have only considered the
incident itself and not the consequences thereof.
The Stewards
Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the
Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and
Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits

Verstappen will probably slipstream the three places back before Turn 2 in Sochi anyway

I was just going to suggest the same thought. They have to take one soon anyway (an extra engine used penalty)caneparo wrote: ↑2 years agoQuite expected. BS
Hamilton saying be tried to overtake very late. Wtf? He couldn't have done it any earlier because Lewis was turning in on him.

I'm not sure. I'm really surprised with the ruling that Max didn't deserve room. I know that he was behind going into the corner, but given the circumstances of Lewis being on cold tyres, you can understand Max feeling he had a chance from so far back.. and he was 80% alongside on the approach to the second apex.
I think a large part of the problem was that Lewis didn't slam the door quite as early as Max did on lap one. In that instance, right or wrong, Max went right to the edge of the track between apexes, forcing Lewis to bail. Lewis kinda left the door open and then drove as if Max wasn't there.
It just feels very.. racing incidenty.. to me.

I enjoyed the race, I'm very very happy that Ricciardo won, I think that he had a clear advantage on Norris: at Monza if you're as fast as the car in front you are bound to close the gap once you get under 2 seconds thanks to the massive effect that slipstreaming has, the fact that Norris couldn't close the gap to me implies that he was not as fast as his tam mate (despite what he said over the radio). Having said that Norris drove very well, IMHO after the SC restart he was in a difficult situation because he was trying to close in on his team mate but had to watch out for Pere and Botts, he didn't put a foot wrong. Plus he pulled a stunning move at Curva Grande. I think that the McLaren duo are possibly the strongest pair out there at the moment, and they are certainly my favorite
I don't agree with the penalty for Verstappen, IMHO it was a racing incident, they both had a chance to save it but decided to go for it. To me what they did was right, the problem is that when you race hard accidents can happen, no big deal. The accident looked bad because Verstappen's car landed on top on Hamilton's, if it wasn't for that it would have been a very unremarkable accident
I was expecting something more from Bottas, up to the SC restart he had a great race, after that IMHO it was quite unremarkable
I was also impressed by what Giovinazzi did in the opening stages of the race, pity that he had that crash with Sainz

Don’t be surprised. It’s a political
Penalty. After they gave it to hamilton in england they had to penalise max for this

I was also surprised at the penalty. But maybe after reading the official stewards ruling I can see how they got to that conclusion. But if it was me, I would have left it at a racing incident. (And I agree that the Silverstone incident was also on their minds in trying to apply some sort of consistency.)
What a great race this year. Monza really fits the format of these new car/tire combinations. The last few years have been great. However as evidenced by the Sprint race yesterday, if it wasn't for the high level of tire deg, Monza would be a bad track. The evidence is amazingly clear that F1 has a HUGE AERO PROBLEM. The turbulence put out by these cars is way too high to allow good racing. (It almost makes me wonder if some of the teams are now adding additional turbulence to their aero package as a defense mechanism.) They could have solved this years ago, but they let the teams have too much input and allow small constant changes with no consequence.
I was so happy for a Ricciardo win! That really was the icing on the cake. Glad to see him back on form. The spot where Norris was faster he was conserving his tires. As soon as the team gave him the "hurry up" he started putting away from Lando and the gap never came back down.
