Bottom post of the previous page:

I really feel for the mechanics and other personnel in all these teams. Several team managers say for years that these people are on their limit. Employees who leave their teams because they are over their limits.

I still think they're aiming high because they anticipate a couple getting cancelled.

18 is the sweet spot for me

Start March, finish last weekend of October or first weekend of November.

I find it hard to believe that when I started watching F1 properly in 1998 we had 16 rounds, finished October 30th or 31st from memory, and even then we had a 5 week break after Luxembourg.

I totally agree @DoubleFart you can have too much of a good thing and F1 has become a prime example of that in recent years.

Yea, I am not sure they need 23 races. They do need at least 23 cars running.

F1 to shrink Monaco GP to three-day race weekend from 2022

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has confirmed the Monaco Grand Prix will run to a traditional three-day race weekend format from 2022.

Monaco has traditionally spread its race weekend over four days, holding the opening two practice sessions on Thursday before using Friday as a rest day for the F1 paddock.

The tradition dated back to the race’s original scheduling on a bank holiday weekend, but was maintained to allow traffic to flow through the area and assists businesses in preparing for the weekend.

But as F1 plans for next year’s calendar, which is set to be revealed in mid-October and finalised at the next FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting, the Monaco weekend will now switch to a traditional format.

It is anticipated that the addition of the Miami Grand Prix to the schedule in May will force Spain and Monaco to go back-to-back. While this has been achieved in the past with a four-day Monaco weekend, the switch to the normal three-day format will ease some logistical pressures.

“Monaco will be in three days, straightaway,” F1 boss Domenicali said.

“So [it will be] Friday, Saturday and Sunday instead of Thursday, a hole, then Saturday and Sunday. Yes, that is the change we’re going to introduce next year.”.....

So bugger all the local businesses that use the Fridays to be able to access their restaurants and bars to stock them up for the busy weekend. Them making money on their biggest money-spinning weekend of the year doesnt matter. Oh well, the fans can just have 2 day old lobster!

As long as F1 was jam in back to back meetings so they can cram in 23 GPs in a year, including waste of space events in places like Miami

23 is going to be too many and is diluting the Grand part of the grand prix. Even I can't have 23 free Sundays a year...
It surprises me that the provisional schedule has three triple-headers, since there were quite a few complaints about it this year, mainly from teams that are having to squeeze personnel in order to get it all done.

I wonder what the impact would be on team budgets as well, given the cost cap.

Agree, but the more races they have on the schedule, the more races that Formula One can get income from.

The sweet spot for me is 16-18 races.

So China is not happening in 2022 after all and it will be replaced by Imola then. The first of many changes no doubt.
