Can someone send a sniper down there, shoot out the tyres and blame the heat?

Our only hope is that on soft tyres that the two Bulls can jump the Mercs off the start... and get Sergio to take Lewis out!
Hopefully Lewis will get a bit of his own medicine tomorrow as he brakes for T1 and thump up the back.
Max needs to channel his de facto father in law if he's going to have any chance tomorrow

Does it make the season a foregone conclusion? I mean if Mercedes are faster at Hungaroring, a track that traditionally favors Red Bull, but what is the situation for the rest of the season?

Is this just a one-off advantage because of the high heat favoring Mercedes, or is this an indicator of the rest of the season?
I think the heat plays hugely in Mercedes' favor, as RB seems to be in a world of trouble once the track temp soars.

As recently as last season it was the other way round

Well, I suspect the heat favored Mercedes (it certainly did not favor Red Bull), but I have no idea why, nor did I expect it to favor Mercedes.

I have worked out why Lewis on his last outlap crawled along the pitlane exit so slowly..... he followed Bottas out, and to ensure he was out of dirty air he needed the buffer.... no rocket science there, but what I was not aware of was the maximum lap time mandated to not breach regs is measured between the two safety car lines. For the Hungarian Grand Prix, drivers must stay below 1m31.0s between Safety Car line 2, which is just towards the end of the pit exit line, and Safety Car line 1, which is just before the pit entry.

Lewis’s final Q3 out-lap was below this, so there was no need for the FIA to consider any rules breach.

Knowing about the maximum time between the two safety car lines, Lewis will have known that a very slow pit lane exit and run to the SC2 line was essential for building a buffer, as he couldn’t drop much further back in the main section of track.

As has been mentioned, Horner was not upset by it and said no laws were breached so all fair. He put it down to 'gamesmanship'.
I still hope it bites Lewis in the butt tomorrow and he gets swamped by both RBs on the run to T1. :fingers: :fingers:

As to why RBR did Q2 on soft tyres Horner said they knew they could not get near Lewis on medium tyres so it was their only option, to try a different / opposite start strategy.

Big thunderstorm at this moment. Surprising, as it was expected to be dry throughout the day.

The F3 race is on now and its still wet and looks like still raining so you never know. As I mentioned in the review we have only had 3 wet Hungarian races since 1986, (2006 2011 and 2014 from memory.)

A bit of wet would certainly sice u what might otherwise be a yawnfest.

Does not look good for his chances of not getting a penalty for another engine over the rest of the season. He is now on his 3rd out of 3 allowed.

5 Feel Good Moments In Hungary | Hungarian Grand Prix

A bit of light relief before the race (If you can put up with James Allen's orgasmic scream of Jenson Button WIIINNNNS.) Other good stuff though.

Usual stuff though have to click on the watch it on youtube link as with all f1.com vids

Nah the track had dried by the end of the race..... in fact remarkably about 10 laps in it dried pretty much in two las as the rain stopped. Remarkable drainage plus it was still warm and the sun was shining by race end.

Looking at pitlane now and it is dry and sort of clear albeit cloudy.

Not seen the radar but not looking too good for a wet race later.

Edit checked the radar and there is rain about plus a local warning for thunderstorms.

Did not realise it, but Lewis, having got his 101st pole is also looking at his 100th race win today.

Fingers crossed it wont be today, however obvious it happening before too long is.

Hopefully the Red Bulls will get off the line like rabbits and sort Lewis out in T1.
Im guessing they're starting on softs uts them into a certain 2 sto strategy, whereas Merc have a chance of a one stopper.
The medium and hard compound have been working well in the higher temperatures, so the hotter it is the better for anyone looking to run on thoseOf course a bit of rain would spice it up..... :fingers:

Rain unlikely

It would be wonderful though, especially midway (dry - wet - dry)

I just read that a thunderstorm is imminent and it's going to be a wet start. Hmm, we'll see. Or rather you will see, I won't see until I get the highlights MUCH later on :(
