Abu Dhabi Yas Marina circuit changes complete

#1

Post by Antonov »

I can't believe it's happening, thank God!

It always seemed to be words but no action with regard to track chances.

No concrete details at this time, except that the changes will happen during summer and will be ready in time for this year's F1 race.

Nice (and welcome back @Antonov!).

It can't be any worse, so hopefully it's an improvement.

Very unexcited about this one.
Always boring. THis might make it potentially slightly less so

Racefans is normally pretty good. One of my more favoured motorsport websites.

for a venue spending millions on the circuit, those lay-out tweaks look like a $2.- DIY, lol.

So from 0 passing opportunities up to 2? Better than the old. Should have been done years ago (especially as it was likely a $2 change , right @Antonov?)

Useless. The F2 race at Monaco showed even the most overtaking unfriendly layout can produce overtaking given the right spec.

This idea track layouts are the main reason for lack of overtaking is nonsense.

Sadly UAE has a ton of money to feature as the season finale for years to come. I'd rather see it at Interlagos instead.

I don't think there's much doubt that the cars are the problem.. it's just a lot easier to remove a chicane than it is to get everyone to redesign their cars.

I'm not saying they shouldn't do the latter also, but why not slap a bandaid on the gash until you can sew it up..?

Not sure how that second loop change would impact passing for the better. If anything, it would make it worse if cars can maintain a bit of speed for longer?

The first added loop might do something. Curious as to why they didn't extend the straight all the way to the current corner though. But probably not enough runoff that way.

And it's also easier to change a layout in a place that has zero history, cult status & fan love to begin with. Abu Dhabi is like 12 years on the calendar and I still couldn't recognize it if you showed me its layout. This is right up there with Korea and India whom I have no idea how those tracks look like anymore :haha: Hell, I don't even remember how those tracks were called even.

Abu Dhabi's layout looks like a gun, which is what I'd like to have in my hand every time that race is on.

I remember India is called Buddh and I think Korea was Yeongyam?

Yeah Yeongam, without the second 'Y', so close! Oh and it is South Korea. Korea it seems doesnt exist (in GP terms anyway.)
