2022 F1 Calendar

#1

Post by Ruslan »

I was just looking at the Wikipedia article for the 2022 F1 season and saw the following:

The following sixteen Grands Prix are contracted to form a part of the 2022 World Championship.

Australian Grand Prix
Austrian Grand Prix
Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Bahrain Grand Prix
Belgian Grand Prix
British Grand Prix
Canadian Grand Prix
Dutch Grand Prix
French Grand Prix
Hungarian Grand Prix
Italian Grand Prix
Mexico City Grand Prix
Miami Grand Prix
Russian Grand Prix
Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
São Paulo Grand Prix

And....

The following eight Grands Prix are under contract to run in 2021, but do not have a contract for 2022:

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Emilia Romagna Grand Prix (Imola)
Japanese Grand Prix
Monaco Grand Prix
Portuguese Grand Prix
Singapore Grand Prix
Spanish Grand Prix
United States Grand Prix

So 16 + 8 = 24. Which ones are they going to drop? I suspect Imola and Portugal.

Well, Imola and Portugual have become COVID replacement races. So, if two were to be dropped...

Will Turkey still go ahead?

I know Turkey was confirmed to replace the Canadian GP due to Covid quarantine and lockdown stuff in Canada a couple of weeks ago..... but since that time Turkey has becoming the latest Covid hotspot with the highest surge of new cases in Europe. Two days ago it went into full lockdown to counteract the virus. It is currently registering 60,000 new cases of Covid PER DAY.
They were running at 6000 cases per day just over a month ago, and then they relaxed its partial lockdown.

Does that make the Turkish GP an unlikely event? It seems like a crazy idea to go there.
