RIP Murray Walker
The voice of F1 in Britain and no doubt beyond. 97 years old, and a man who lived a remarkable life.

RIP legend. I grew up listening to Italian commentary but I could appreciate Murray's style and enthusiasm more and more as we got access to streamed services. He gave a lot to F1 and motorsports in general.

Sad day. I think it's hard to find someone that didn't like Murray. Even when he got it wrong (seems like it was often), it was still very entertaining.

'Gone but not forgotten', that is for sure.
The circumstances of his death have not been revealed, which is perfectly understandable. I hope his passing was gentle.
There is so much material of Murray commentating, but why not have it done in his own words?

I never really was a fan of him, but it is sad that he's gone now.

We have a commentator, Olav Mol, who makes mistakes too. The only difference here is that when Murray makes a mistake, we all laugh about it and when Olav makes a mistake he should be replaced, according to some.

Oh dear. Awful news. Will need to read his autobiography again. He did so much.
Rest in peace Murray.

Yes, very sad.... it was inevitable that given his age his time was short, but yes what a life he enjoyed to the full. His enthusiasm for motor racing in general, and despite his gaffes, his knowledge was second to none and I am sure he is very much a factor for the support F1 grew to enjoy back in the day.
Even in recent years I enjoyed his contributions and to me he will like Bernie be Mr F1 and Mr Motor Racing.
I am trying to think the first time I remember Murray from. Im sure it was before but the first clear memory was watching Rallycross on TV on a Saturday afternoon when he was raving about a car (a Mini?) with holes in the screen giving the driver a better view..... as the driver got mud in his eye and drove straight into the earth bank. Not sure of the year but a long time ago.
Rest in Peace Murray, and thanks so much for so many great memories and I daresay a lot of my enthusiasm for racing rubbed off from him. He will be up there with James fighting over the microphone again.
A true legend of our sport. To me a true Mr Motor Racing.

According to Jackie Stewart and Doug Nye, he was in a care home with his wife. Jackie Stewart said that not many people knew he had moved into one and so didn't get many phone calls. From the sounds of it, he was still with it and not unwell though.
Anyway, I feel so proud and honoured to have met him once, it's a memory I'll always carry with me. He was the voice of F1 growing up and as big a part of it to me as the on track action. He will be missed a lot

Clearly the circumstances are that he was 97 years old and had lived much longer than the average male, much of his life lived as a National treasure and F1 legend, who had a huge following, certainly more friends than haters and he thoroughly enjoyed his life.... the fact that he was in recent years diagnosed with (I think prostate) cancer may have had an effect but AFAIK he had been successfully treated for that.
The cause of his death is immaterial per se.... he died of old age and it seems peacefully. He had a great innings.
