This is really not the news I wanted to read today.

According to Italian media, he made it through the night and is stable, but serious. The next announcement from the hospital will be at 10am Italian time.

This is the translation of the bullettin just issued this morning

"Regarding the clinical conditions of the athlete Alex Zanardi, hospitalized from 18 June 19 in very serious conditions at the Santa Maria alle Scotte polyclinic following a road accident occurred in the province of Siena, the Health Directorate of the Aou Senese informs that the patient "subjected to a delicate neurosurgical intervention on the evening of June 19, and subsequently transferred to intensive care, he has stable hemodynamic and metabolic parameters. He is intubated and supported by artificial ventilation while the neurological picture remains serious".

and F1 just ran a special on him just a few days ago.

I remember 'laughing' at him for his dismal performances at Williams.

But as I grew older, so did my respect for him.

The medical term used is more to do with Jaw or mouth injuries than brain ones so erm, fingers crossed it isn't, but either way it gives me shivers just thinking about what has happened knowing the situation it involved.

"There is an important situation from the point of view of brain damage. It may become unstable at any moment, so there may be some worsening, but at the moment, stability excludes this possibility", said Sabino Scolletta, Head of Resuscitation of the hospital of Siena.Giuseppe Olivieri, the neurosurgeon who operated Zanardi at the Santa Maria alle Scotte hospital in Siena, spoke this morning about the intervention and the situation: “At the moment the conditions are serious but stable, he came to us with this important cranio-facial trauma, with a facial crash and a sunken fracture of the frontal bones. At the moment all the numbers are good, obviously neurologically it cannot be evaluated, even if the serious situation remains. "Olivieri then added:" The numbers are good, while remaining a very serious situation, is a patient worth treating. We will see the neurological picture from a distance, when he wakes up. The improvements, in qu in these cases, they can be seen over time, the worsening can be sudden. He did a CT scan immediately after surgery and now has a catheter for measuring intracranial pressure. The intervention went as it should have been, the initial situation was so serious ".

Thanks Toni for the updates. Hopefully the 'numbers' stay where the specialists want them and there is no permanent damage. :fingers: :fingers:

You’re welcome. You can imagine how little time I have in this period but I want you to update with fresh news when possoble. This is the google translation of the bullettin of this evening

The first details on Alex Zanardi's health conditions are beginning to emerge, serious but stable after yesterday's accident: Sabino Scolletta, director of the emergency emergency department of the Le Scotte hospital in Siena, said it could have consequences for the eyesight " because he has some eye injury.

We asked for advice from the ophthalmologists. The trauma is also facial and, therefore, it is likely that there may be lesions of the visual field. But it will be possible to evaluate it in a few days. Difficult to say now. "For the rest," it is stable, but naturally serious from a neurological point of view. The conditions continue to be stable from the cardiorespiratory point of view, it continues to be mechanically ventilated, and the metabolic parameters remain stable. The general clinical picture is all in all good, but it is obviously to confirm the severity of the neurological picture: it will have to be evaluated next week "when the clinical conditions will allow to remove the sedation.

I am very curious about Italy, with all the investigations and finger pointing after racing accidents, allowing the racing on roads still open to the public traffic......... :dunno:

Ponderous.

Sad. :(

"The Prosecutor of Siena has opened a file on the incident in which Alex Zanardi was involved this afternoon. The deputy prosecutor Serena Menicucci, magistrate on duty, carried out an inspection on the scene of the accident in the municipality of Pienza. The prosecutor then delegated the carabinieri of the companion of Montepulciano to carry out the surveys and to carry out investigations on the incident. In the file, according to what AdnKronos learns, the crime of serious injuries from road accidents is hypothesized, based on article 590 bis of the penal code. The carabinieri, coordinated by the prosecutor, meanwhile, have acquired at least one amateur video that would have taken up the moment of the tragic accident. The military of the Arma are also carrying out checks on the organizational methods of the "Objective 3" event in which Zanardi participated together with a dozen runners. The aim is to ascertain whether the race took place in suitable safety conditions."

Suitable safety conditions??? I don't care whether it's cars, bicycles, "wheelchairs", or pogo sticks. If there's regular traffic coming the other way on the road, there's a question???????

Once again, common sense really prevails, eh? :sarcasm:

Unbelievable.......:jaw:

This is the clinical update of 11.30: "Regarding the clinical conditions of the athlete Alex Zanardi, admitted to the polyclinic Santa Maria alle Scotte in Siena since 19 June following a road accident, the Health Department informs that the patient spent the night in cardio-respiratory and metabolic stability conditions. The organ functions are adequate. It is always sedated, intubated and mechanically ventilated. The ongoing neuromonitoring has shown some stability but this figure must be taken with caution because the neurological picture remains serious. The current conditions of general stability still do not allow to exclude the possibility of adverse events and, therefore, the patient always remains in a reserved prognosis.

Thanks Toni, and appreciate the updates knowing your time issues with your extended family plus life in general atm.

At least this latest statements shows light at the end of the tunnel, although clearly the issue of brain damage remains a threat / risk. He is obviously in good hands and will be getting the best possible treatment, so hopefully future reports and updates will not show any deterioration which, I guess is all we can hope for at this stage of his treatment.

Forza Alex.

Todays statement from the hospital is pretty much the same as yesterday.... stable but serious and in a position where things can change rapidly. He is constantly being evaluated to see if any diagnostic-therapeutic actions are needed.
A potential worry is that his prognosis is now being classified as confidential. I guess understandable when his condition is basically unknown until he is strong enough and stable enough for neurological tests to commence.
On Monday, an official update from the Santa Maria alle Scotte hospital said: "The clinical conditions remain unchanged in the cardio-respiratory and metabolic parameters while the neurological picture remains serious.

"The patient is sedated, intubated and mechanically ventilated and the prognosis is confidential.

"The multidisciplinary team that takes care of him will evaluate in the next few days any diagnostic-therapeutic actions to be taken."

Follow this site for daily updates, it is actually Zanardi's hospital. It seems there will not be a significant update until next week because they are keeping him under until then:
