This year will go on the highlight reel.

Also lol at Seb getting 2nd place in the Driver Of The Race vote for finishing 14th behind the CLAP.

I saw that. I was going to comment on it....but....

It does show that the inherit bias of "The driver of the race" vote. Maybe they should have the TV commentators choose.

Well, Grosjean won it the week before last and only drove 3 corners on Sunday and the third of those not very well

Anyway, it's fine, people vote for whatever they want, not just good driving or a good result.

It doesn’t feel quite right the vote ends as soon as the chequered flag is waved. What about a driver saving best for last? (Thinking of Norris at the first race this season)

Yea, do think they could do better with that feature. Right now it is kind of a little meaningless throwaway. It could have more meaning.

Nice story. If....
I must admit I am always suspicious of stories like this.... why would Seb know / remember his name and address to be able to drop tickets and a handwritten note off? And why would Seb spend 'several minutes' chatting to an unknown fan. A selfie and an autograph and a question of "are you going to the race" is done a hundred times a day by Seb....

Nice story (see above from Everso). Always seemed like a likable character though - jokes a lot - off the track.

Pity I'm not friends with him though and only know him from his racing :P.

This story is also several years old. Not sure why ESPN chose to tweet it today.

Congrats to Sebastian on the move to Aston Martin hopefully he can beat Lance Stroll, but if he can't, I guess that kinda leans toward him losing his MOJO for F1....Can't wait to see if and how the 2021 F1 season unfolds!

Or...

Bottas meanwhile will get the bump, with Russell taking his seat, and Bottas will go to Ferrari, with Vettel retiring.

Or...

I can only see Ricciardo, Bottas or Sainz in that second Ferrari seat.
I'm interested in how well Carlos Sainz will do at Ferrari! I'm predicting Leclerc is faster than Carlos as well! The point is moot!

That will be interesting to see. So far Sainz appears to roughly on par with Norris, Hulkenberg, Perez and Ocon. Now Sainz is matched with Leclerc and Perez is matched with Verstappen. We get to see if they are close to them or if Leclerc and Verstappen really are something special.

Seb had an RBR offer after Ferrari dumped him.

Interesting to read that contrary to what we thought, Seb it seems did have a deal or an offer to return to RBR after his Ferrari release was made public. It always seemed said that he was of no interest in Seb by RBR.... at least by Horner. Horner's boss, or so it seems at times, has said he made an offer/proposal for Seb to return to the RBR fold..

The sticking point was that it was not for a drive in 2021, rather for 2022 with 2021 in a reserve/gap year role. At the time of the article linked (October) Albon was merely under threat and IIRC Perez was not really even a serious thought at that time beyond it being at option. It was Sergios run of form in the final races that put him in the picture as a real option.

Apparently it was the gap year that Vettel did not like, and with an offer from RP to drive in 2021 the Marko offer / proposal was not that desirable to Seb. (No doubt along with the likely #2 ticket given Max is contracted as #1)

Yea, and you wonder what other conditions and terms there were? "If Verstappen is immediately behind you on the track...."

Clearly Seb had his reasons for not going back to RBR, I hope Aston Martin is a good fit for him. That is about the only thing that excites me about F1 2021 at the moment.

He'll be worried that max will be quicker than him. Everyone would be.

That's not a big issue, it's happened to most world champions in the end

I think it'll be a good move for him. I'm hoping for something like Piquet's move to Benetton, a nice Indian summer. Teammate with the capability of qualifying quicker on occasion but lacking in racecraft
The board equivalent of the Jody scheckter chicane. Fast but pointless
