I don't think they should give these awards to people who choose to live in a tax haven.
Isn't that the majority of people awarded a title in recent decades?
Sadly Bernie is one of the few British F1glitterati that choose to live in the UK. Other than the British born team principals of UK based teams like Ron Dennis and SFW.
Graham Hill is the last UK Champion that did I think. Oh, and his son Damon. (Something tells me he lived somewhere odd for a while.)
Hamilton obviously, Monaco and Switzerland plus the US for a lot of his time. (He certainly owns property there)
Button lives in Monaco and has done all his career.
Mansell lived in the Isle of Man
Hunt lived in Marbella Spain and other o/s spots.
Stewart always lived in Switzerland.
Even Jim Clark lived the last part of his life in Paris AFAIK
John Surtees I am not sure. I believe he lived in the UK to run his Surtees Race car business.
It is the rare exception for UK or other nationality WDC driver to live in their own country.
I'm going to call you on the Button claim. As far as I knew he lived on the Channel Islands, Guernsey to be specific, though he may also have had a home in Monaco I guess.

Yes he did have a base in Guernsey, but I remember that right from the start of his F1 career he had a place in Monaco as well, and was always there.... it is from those days that Flavio used to call Jenson "Boyband Button" because he was well known around the clubs and nightlife.... in fact it was often said that Button not getting on at Renault was something to do that for the GP at Monaco one of those years Jenson got a better berth for his boat that Flavio did... because Jenson was friends with the harbourmaster. A young upstart coming into Flavio's playground and getting preferential treatment over him (in effect Jenson's Boss) did not go down too well with FB.

Bernie lives in Brazil now

True. He has always had a property there and loves the country, and I guess now he does not have to pop into the office everyday day..... Plus of course he has had a Brazilian wife now for the last 8 years or so.. (Fabiana Flosi)

And he has a big wallet. So it was love at first sight.

@Everso Biggyballies I guessed I Buttonhad more than one home. I just recalled the Guernsey one. I don't keep up with drivers outside of F1 as a rule though.
It sounds like Lewis might not have the negotiating position he used to have if this is true. Covid looks like it's going to be more costly to him than missing just one race.

Article said he has made four demands:
1. Salary of 35.5 million pounds.
2. 10% Mercedes prize money (another 13 million pound bonus for 2021...as they are likely to win).
3. A car.
4. A future significant role in the team.
It does not discuss the duration of the contract, which I thought was always the sticking issue.
Cash demands seem a little high. Is Hamilton a good fit for a role beyond being a driver and marketing? I have no way of judging that.

1. Salary of 40 million Euros
2. 10% Mercedes prize money (around 10 million Euros)
3. A 2.72 million AMG Project One car (I assume this is really not a big issue)
4. A future significant role in the team.
5. And a four year contract.
This last point gets my attention, because many of the other articles seems to think that the sticking point was that Hamilton wanted a one or two year contract while Mercedes wanted a 3 year contract.
At 36 I can't see how Hamilton is looking for a four year contract anyway. I know Kimi is over 40 but surely Hamilton is getting to the age where he is going to start being beyond his best and as such he can't command the figures he's looking for (which are obscene by the way). A lot of drivers look to be retiring around the upper 30s as a general rule.
If he's not careful, he's not going to be on the grid this year.
Hamilton seems to be raising his game each year rather than lowering it. Vettel certainly looks on the decline year-on-year and is about 2 years younger. I think we are a good few years away from saying "It's time to retire, Lewis".
