Haryanto to race on for Manor?

A couple of rumors from Will Buxton:

- Haryanto's deal with Manor expires after today's Hungarian GP and he is looking to secure funding ahead of the next GP in Germany. There is a possibility that McLaren will place Vandoorne at Manor as a replacement.
- Force India / Vijay Mallya is stating the team has a legally binding 2017 agreement with Perez, but Sergio is saying he has good backers and they will announce their plans for 2017 shortly with the rumor being that he's looking at Renault.

Agree Paul. Perez should not go to Renault. Not yet. I would like to see how they improve next year. It is pretty remarkable that Red Bull is much better than the Renault works team.

Haryanto has done a decent job but he's only there because of money and that money only secured a race seat until Hungary. He's not losing his seat as that seat is technically no longer his.

But if it were a choice over Haryanto or Vandoorne, then there's really only one choice there.

Haryanto may still race in Germany even if he doesn't have funding. This is coming from his manager Piers Hunisett and Dave Ryan. The ultimate decision lies with Steven Fitzpatrick.

Haryanto will be racing for Manor in Germany

Rio Haryanto will drive for the Manor Formula 1 team in this weekend's German Grand Prix after securing funds to see him through the weekend at Hockenheim.

While Haryanto has a contract with the team through to the end of this season, there was only enough money in place for up to and including the last race in Hungary.

Haryanto's manager Piers Hunnisett has continued to work behind the scenes in the hope of securing the additional funding required to guarantee the seat for the remainder of the campaign.

Sources have now confirmed further investment has been provided that ensures the 23-year-old Indonesian will be in the cockpit for the race in Germany.

It is understood the summer break after the German GP will then allow Hunnisett to pursue the necessary backing required for Haryanto to complete his debut year.

It will also allow Manor to finalise a back-up plan should there be a problem.

Alexander Rossi, who drove for Manor in five races last season before switching to IndyCar this year, winning the Indianapolis 500 with Andretti Herta Autosport, is the team's reserve driver.

However, three of the final four races of the IndyCar season at Texas on August 27, Watkins Glen on September 4 and Sonoma on September 18 clash with F1 races in Belgium, Italy and Singapore.

Rossi would only be an option for the final six races of the F1 campaign from late September onwards, once the IndyCar season has finished.

Manor has development driver Jordan King on its books, but the Racing Engineering GP2 does not have a superlicence to compete in F1.

Should Haryanto be unable to find funding to complete the season the Mercedes are likely to place Esteban Ocon in that seat.

Alex Rossi was offered the option of taking Haryanto's place at Manor for the remainder of the season but three GP's clash with Indycar races so Rossi turned down the offer.

Clearly Haryanto failed to get the social media following the sponsors seemed to judge his sponsorship potential by. I did read that his renewal prospects would be based on his local following and interest which clearly must have fallen short of the number required to maintain government support.

Having said that he did shine on rare occasions.... just they were too rare.

But while he wasn't an embarrassment, unless he had money I can see why they dropped him.
