Isnt it strange how sometimes certain things 'accidentally' get leaked. This to me is a case of one of those times. Why, out of a calendar that has not even been provisionally issued yet, does the most overhyped new event in my memory suddenly have its date and position in the calendar get out into the media.
Las Vegas GP date leaked, F1 race could be paired with Abu Dhabi for a season ending back to back.
The inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix night race has a preliminary race date of 16-18 November next year that could form a glitzy season-ending back-to-back with Abu Dhabi.
A letter has been leaked that has the planned inaugural race date next year of 18 November, a week before America’s Thanksgiving weekend, and that the contract runs through to 2027.
That opens the door to it being a regular penultimate round of the season, with F1 wishing to end its schedule on the final weekend of November in Abu Dhabi. So a back to back season finale.
The letter commits to keeping this same weekend slot for the five-year duration, and the schedule for the night race will be planned so that track activity will end no later than 1:30am local time each day.
The document also lays out the commercial terms of the event, as well as the groundwork for the temporary street circuit’s construction and maintenance. It includes guidelines for a requirement of 900 marshals, 1200 fire extinguishers, 15 cranes and 18 ambulances and tow trucks.
It does not mention anything about the fact that Liberty is self promoting the event, or that the plans for the permanent pit and race control facility, which we know vaguely will be built on a plot of nearby land in central Vegas purchased by a Liberty subsidiary for $240 million earlier this year.
So we know the dates of the final two races of the calendar (for several years to come) but still dont have any news on more important events like Monaco, Spa, and others.
