Copying RedBull’s design is always a smart idea when you know you have Newey in the team. The thing is, you can never outrun Newey.

Mercedes have a new engine this GP. Are their upgrades good or is it only the the new PU? I have heard that on Friday the car isn't as low as tomorrow or on a Sunday.

Indeed and they have had the full set of components. Also Perez and Zhou have had odd components. See here for details
https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files ... 0Event.pdf
Also Lewis and Charles have taken a full new gearbox and all the bits. (No penalties as all have an annual quota now to use prior to any penalties. )

Anyone want an update on who has taken what in power unit components in total this year?

P3 about to start. In fact Green light is on and car filtering out.
All we need now is for Aston to suddenly end up ahead of Red Bull and shit, fan etc.
Just watched a comparison thing that Chandok did and I have to say it all looks a bit suss. But I cant see it going anywhere unless RB discover the smoking gun that proves person X downloaded drawing y etc a week before they left,

Lewis goes out and it seems his DRS is not working so back to the garage for Lewis. Meanwhile George goes third behind the two Ferraris by half a second.
Edit: as I typed that Max and Sergio went 2nd and 4th pushing George to 5th.

Carlos it seems had a chassis change last night, as did Lando.... he went off yesterday and damaged the upgraded floor. Thats now repaired and fitted again.
Oh and we just had a bit of a fire in Gasly's car as he returned to the pits. Well, more smoke than flames but where there is smoke.....
Talking of smoke and Schu came in with his brakes on fire..... crew were waiting with extinguishers for his arrival, but he couldnt stop and missed his box! He wont be going out again anytime soon.

Gasly has a failed heat shield and is overheating as a result. He likely wont be back out.

Track is getting quicker now with just under 20 to go. KMag goes 5th.

Lewis is struggling a bit compared to George. Not unusual I guess.
George goes 2nd 0.14 behind Leclerc.... Lewis 8th a second back. Not sure if RB are doing race prep stuff but they are both 0.7 behind Leclerc. Top 12 are all on soft rubber

The times are still a lot slower than I was expecting 1:19.772 the fastest today.
10 minutes left, maybe it will all happen now.

Hmmmm at the moment we have Ferrari Red Bull and Mercedes in pos 1-6 with 0.4 covering the lot. Merc certainly looking more promising. But race pace is another thing.
Both McLarens are in the bottom quarter.

Good to see Mercedes’ back in the mix. Doubtful it will hold up for the race though.

Thats P3 done and dusted.
We have one of each of the top three teams leading the times.... the three team leaders. Thats Charles, Max and George
0.148 covering the three. Charles looking particularly strong with him being fastest in every session.
Of course now we get to the important bit, given the nature of the track and the poor passing opportunities.
Qualy here has always been key.....31 races have been held here, 28 have been won by a driver starting on the front row. 23 out of 31 races have been won by the polesitter.
No time set for Gasly and Schu didnt do many miles either.
My GTP not looking too flash given the current slow times.
