Lewis and Bottas are out early for their final run, and they both go yellow in S1. Lewis goes fastest
Rain coming in pitlane now.
Max goes quicker and Sergio stays 3rd....

SO POLE FOR MAX

A lot of people saying that this weekend was a Merc certainty. I know the race is a whole other matter than quali but.. they look a lot more beatable this season as a whole.

Wasn't expecting today's turnaround tbf

No sandbagging going on, I think it just took RB a while to work it out

Yep, this. If Checo is close enough to do a dive, I say he should go for it 100%. Make Lewis jump out of the way, and if he doesn't.. *shrug*

I wouldn't normally condone this.. but karma calls.

Seems like Merc have been running a softer rear suspension which allows them to gain straight line when the rear is forced down on the straight. The new version of bendy wings

They've had to abandon it here as the bumps were smashing the car to bits

Also the hotter temps have helped RB again.

I reckon we're gonna see structure failures today

PS it's just as hot today

Yeah it seems that Max had a crack appear on his rear wing before qualy and they had to get the go ahead from the stewards to fix and strengthen the wing on both cars. At the time they had no idea what had caused it, but were going to investigate it overnight to determine the cause. That was going to determine their action for the race.

Also their lack of pace in the first session was that the setup they arrived with tuned out to be wrong and so they tuned it over the day and found the sweet spot.

And Merc went backwards. They'll say they don't know why, but I'm sure they do.

Max needs to capitalise today as the favourable Merc conditions could soon return

Stay off them bumps

Really don’t know why Merc are suddenly on the backfoot here. Perhaps they’ve turned down their engines after all the failures they’ve seen around them. I don’t buy this whole “going in the wrong direction with the set up” because if you find a good one in FP1 you’re not going to suddenly go slower.

More on this (quoting a guy from TBK):
Seems like Merc have been running a softer rear suspension which allows them to gain straight-line speed when the rear is forced down on the straight. The new version of bendy wings

However, they've had to abandon it for COTA as the bumps were smashing the car to bits.
