I don't think we need a Discord. Just another app, another forum ("yo i heard you like forums, so we put a forum in your forum so you can forum while you forum"), another place to doomscroll.

Better keep the forum business in the forum.

I'm in agreement with the last two posts. I didn't even need to watch half of Emerso's video to know that the world doesn't need this thing.

Honestly, it could be a side thing to discuss stuff. I would gladly partecipate in it, if someone creates it. For sure is a way more direct way to communicate then the forum, for sure.

I am mostly on GTHub discord. Pretty good place to be, when there are live races and there is no chatbox. Also they have a livestream topic with links to a lot of streams.

It's good for live chats, but dont try and find anything on a somewhat active server that is older then a week. I'll prefer the forum for long term discussions.

That sort of worries me that it might detract from the actual forum activity and given the finding older dicussions not on the server implies that info that would be held / recorded in the standard forum is not recorded via discord. Or not long term anyway. As I have mentioned much of the forum activity during in races runs a bit like a live chat, and is recorded.I for one regularly use the forum d=search to remind myself of past discussions.
To me if I wish to have more off the record chats or social blah blah with specific people that is what I use the PM service or email contact for,.

If it aint broke dont fix it comes to mind.

we never archive any threads or so. Everything that is being said in the race threads will remain there (except for offtopic spam and other uncivil behaviour of course).

@Starling.... sorry if I confused you with the word archive.... im not that computer savvy, so excuse my ignorance.
My meaning when I said archived is more that all forum content (other than the exceptions Cheeveer mentioned) is saved and searchable for future reference and is not deleted, where my understanding of Discord from other comments is that it disappears after a set time and is not saved.

I saw this thread a few weeks ago, having totally forgotten I created it so my first reaction was "What the hell do we need a Discord for?"

I realised the ONLY reason was in case the forum had some kind of downtime.

Anyway, rest assured if this forum goes down, I have not shut it down unexpectedly. If some kind of attack takes us out completely or the host goes out of business....well, I should have some backups and we will pop up online again within a week or two. That's absolute worst case scenario.
