We all know the problems with www.motorsportmemorial.org. It serves as a primary source for our research. But its existence is as stable as the value of Bitcoin.

This thread seeks to discuss a proper way of handling the tasks that come with the intent of saving the work of motorsportmemorial.

As i said, with a little bit of work we can redo that database, and even improve it by a lot. We have the CPDB, i'm collecting fatal crash videos since 2009, so we can even add this things to the great work of MM. @Sedre also has worked on something really interesting for this kind of project.

@Sedre

Would you summarize what you've collected/created?

Give me a couple of days, as I revised about 60% of current database. I hope that I will finish before weekend.

If mmorg somehow disappears from the internet, it would be just like killing all those people, all over again. I support your effort from the bottom of my heart and soul. Let me know if there's anything I can do.

Motorsportmemorial does in fact not belong to anybody, and has zero value in monetary terms. It belongs to everybody! Public domain. In the spirit of a free internet. Noble cause. But note that something like half the entries are American. Imagine, if you will, if it were a virtual cemetery for fallen soldiers of that nation. See what I'm getting at? An anonymous motor racing enthusiast slash donator from the United States would already have put a small fortune into this project, but for some reason, noone seems interested. There is only one conclusion, and that is noone except ourselves, really gives a toss. This is a fat fucking disgrace, if I ever heard of one. I would reckon, however, than I could write Donald Trump for a $1m donation, and probably under the right circumstances even get it. Thing is, I don't submit to, or take handouts from fat bastards. This sort of thing MUST be completely based on amateurism. Non-profit, with donations accepted for site maintenance and development. Problem is, the site has not developed in the least. It has in fact in some significant ways deteriorated. Only one person in the world has the ability to keep this online, and that is Sal. He is not the least bit stupid, so of course he has made sure that other people have the ability to continue the database, if he should somehow spontaneously combust, or suffer a tragic gardening accident. Most his crew deserted him, however, and Nanni is standing there, alone at the helm, like the goddamned Ancient Mariner, with us - unfairly perhaps - bombarding his leaky old schooner with info that takes 6 months or more to appear, which is frankly unacceptable, even though I quite understand why. But I would call that quite unsustainable, and I hope that there will be news soon, about how they envision the future of a project that is absolutely crucial, even if there's no apparent public interest in the matter. It matters to us, and we who care should work out a way ahead, amongst us. Including financing. We can't turn our backs on it. We must insist that Nanni ask Sal directly what he intends to do with this unique body of information, in the long run. And we must support them to the best of our ability. I still do, even though I had to step down, but that story is irrelevant, now.

I'll contact Nanni and ask him this very important question: What is Sal's idea of the future of the website.

I don't think that nobody cares. It's just that all those who do care have finally given up dealing with those who run the site.

Why don’t we just request a download of the database? We can upload it and continue to update it ourselves from our own domain. Like, I think Formula2.net will never come back and I had the foresight to acquire a copy before it went offline. Stefan was quite sick the last time I heard.

A small revision of its design would fit mm.org quite well, imho.

@hollie3sa, @Motorsportrace, @mattia2

OK, I finally finished convert my Excel database to Google sheets, so let me write some legend to use it right:

Things in bold are for information that different from MM.org, including the one that is currently missing, corrections to their info or typos.

Things in italic are for information that currently incomplete, including full names, dates, series, races and etc.

Things with underline are for controversial or not confirmed information and also for names with not fully known middle names.

Controversial and not fully confirmed information can be shown if you look in comments in corresponding cell.

Numbers in column "MM number" are used to navigate in MM.org, if you paste it after http://www.motorsportmemorial.org/focus.php?db=ct&n= , you will be send to corresponding MM page. Negative numbers are for LWF sections, zero for cases which are currently completely missing from their databese.

Two last columns implemented to show if there's picture and/or video of fatal crash. "Confirmed" means that I have picture or video link, "Exist" that I know that picture/video is exist, but I don't found it yet, "Aftermath" for pictures that don't show actual wreck but place of accident, "Wreck" for pictures that show remains of car several days/months/years after fatal accident, "Rumoured" for cases when I heard something about existence of footage but cannot confirm it and "Likely exist"/"Unlikely" is means that it means.

In my list entered almost all drivers and co-drivers fatalities, accidents with former racing drivers or drivers who observed racing events, worked as mechanics, track officials, etc from MM.org or my own searches. I'm not list several cases:
- riding mechanics, if they're not participated in races earlier as race driver (maybe will be implimented in future);
- unnamed racers and racers without known at least first letter in surname (http://www.motorsportmemorial.org/focus ... =ct&n=5481), they're listed in another list (will be implimented in future);
- Al Cobb (http://www.motorsportmemorial.org/focus ... =ct&n=9231) - not confirmed to be racing fatality;
- Jorge Castro (http://www.motorsportmemorial.org/focus ... =ct&n=9861) - confirmed to survive accident;
- Raul Salerno (http://www.motorsportmemorial.org/focus ... =ct&n=4039) - confirmed to survive accident;
- Gerald Shaw (http://www.motorsportmemorial.org/focus ... =ct&n=3279) - was driving drag motorcycle;
- Charles Tuddle (http://www.motorsportmemorial.org/focus ... ct&n=12483) - completely unknown nationality and location of accident;
- María de Villota (http://www.motorsportmemorial.org/focus ... ct&n=11296) - need full confirmation that her death was caused by injuries;
- Gavin Booth (http://www.the-fastlane.co.uk/cpdb/cras ... ditid1=251) - need confirmation about his year of death;

Database is currently not filled entirely but I will add information to already existed cases as well as new cases that I found. All updates will be shown it this thread at weekends.

I want to thank Motorsport Memorial, Fastlane Forums, Drag Strip Deaths, The Nostalgia Forums, eWRC-results.com, Find a Grave, Newspapers.com, Pilotos Muertos, Autoanddrive blogspot, Billion Graves, Autosport in USSR, Findmypast.co.uk and several other websites for help in filling database.

All corrections, suggestions and criticism are welcome.

Thank you for your words.

I forgot to say two important things:
1. I'm omitted from database two named drivers (http://www.motorsportmemorial.org/focus ... ct&n=10440 & http://www.motorsportmemorial.org/focus ... =ct&n=9347) because of lack of information regarding their date of death;
2. I'm also found several unconfirmed fatalities and drivers who maybe were killed while racing so I need your help in research that case; my main problem that my searches are limited by web and I don't have access to racing magazines from past; especially French, Spanish and Argentinean. I'll add these possible fatalities later in another list.
