The biggest incident of the day occurred with 50 laps to go as the lead pack approached Turn 1. 3rd place driver Jeff Gordon attempted to make a pass on Kevin Harvick (#29) in 2nd, but Harvick took action by trying to block Gordon and push him down towards the apron. Harvick's aggression would be his (and others) undoing when he was clipped by Gordon and sent spinning out of control. His car spun up the banking, ricocheted off the outside wall, and back down again where he was met by the rest of the lead pack. When it was all over, eighteen cars were involved in the incident and 10 drivers were taken to the infield care center, albeit with only minor cuts and bruises.
