THE FASTLANE :: Features :: Le Mans 1955 Tribute :: Page 1
2005 saw the 50th Anniversary of the 1955 Le Mans tragedy. Some images are currently offline (around 6 or 7), but this will be rectified soon. This is a tribute by Jesper Hvid:

1. Introduction - explanatory notes etc.
It's the exact 50th anniversary of the 1955 Le Mans race today, and true to the nature of this forum, at least seen from my point of view, I've found that I've simply had to make the following tribute section, out of respect for, and in memory of the many victims of the famous crash, and also as a way of dispelling some of the false myths about it, which can still be read anywhere in books, articles or websites about motorsport. Also, it's in my own humble opinion the best attempt so far, of gathering all available images, information and video footage in one place.
I've kept my own personal opinions to a minimum, but I won't try and discourage anyone else from posting theirs. Feel free to add any comments. It's a highly sensitive subject, and I fully understand if anyone feels the need to vent their criticism about certain drivers and their actions, but I'd prefer if it could be done nobly and in as polite a manner as possible. Most of the people involved are now dead, but we should not be dishonouring their memories, no matter how they may have been involved in this catastrophic event. Thanks in advance.
If you should choose to read and indeed watch the whole thing, then I'd be very grateful if you'd kindly check whether you should have anything to add on your HDs, and simply post whatever it may be in the following thread:

***A note of general warning is in order, as this entire tribute contains literally dozens of pics (and a score of videos) which in various degrees of explicitness depict the disastrous 1955 Le Mans crash (and a few other fatal crashes, as well). Nothing has been censored or omitted from the material which has been found during the research process, save one picture showing a woman holding a decapitated child. This image will never be posted on this website.***
Should you find any dead links or incorrect information, please tell us.
*[pic]* means click to enlarge.
[Finally, please note the following few pages are an adaptation of Jesper's original work from The Fastlane forum. The video section is therefore omitted, but they can be posted on request on the forum. Also, some images have been resized to fit the page. To see the larger versions, please view the original tribute section on the forum. Also, some words have not been altered to reflect the fact this is a 'webpage', not a 'thread' or a 'post'.]
