The thing I dont get about NASCAR is why they make it 200 to 500 lap races. Just do 50 laps. Make it easier for me![NSC/NNS/CWTS] 2009 Season

Nope the roll cage partly collapsed, he said so in his post crash interview.Cheeveer wrote:Not really a vicious crash, it just looked scary that the car had been flattened when it laid on the grass. Ryan is a kinda big fella', so that is why it takes so long to get him out. He said over the radio that he was okay.
It's a good job he landed on Harvick's bonnet, cos that took the initial impact away from the roof, otherwise had it landed squarly on the roof on the road, it would have weakened it so much that it would have probably collapsed on Newman properly by the time it dug into the grass.
Roof flaps did come up as well but they can't work in every situation.
Oh and I loved the way Newman said "if you like watching that {wrecks}, go home cos you're not welcome here" way to make some new fans there
I am very sorry if you find my posts long and boring, I like to type and often go off on a tangent.

50 laps wouldn't be a great idea, because then there wouldn't be any endurance or strategy in the race.DoubleFault wrote:The thing I dont get about NASCAR is why they make it 200 to 500 lap races. Just do 50 laps. Make it easier for me!

I don't think he wasn't talking about the wrecks. Im pretty sure he was referring to the single-file racing and the NASCAR rule change which meant normal Talladega racing didnt happen for the majority of the race.Ian-S wrote:Oh and I loved the way Newman said "if you like watching that {wrecks}, go home cos you're not welcome here" way to make some new fans there

exactly... not only that but also his best tracks are in the chase (in 8 tracks out of 10 he has an average finish in the top 10). And the race with that crap rule couldn't even save the day.Cheeveer wrote:Jimmie Johnson is so lucky he makes me nauseous.
In the end, with a 184 points lead he can (will) win the title before Homestead

Good, maybe that'll bring some focus back on the actual racing. There's been some pretty good racing (except last week at Talladega obviously) but it's usually overshadowed by all the constant Chase talk.

Definitely he is a good driver, but his luck is just something else. Last week he had a pathetic strategy, drove like a pussy and yet found himself in the top 10 at the end. You can't say that result was down to good driving.

Which, at Talladega, is the same as luck. You can't predict wrecks.erwin greven wrote:he was at the right moment at the right time.

Another few chasers in the wall: Edwards and Montoya. Jeff Gordon only spins and takes an eoll penalty to change tires.
