Bottom post of the previous page:

Rosenqvist fastest in opening day of Homestead IndyCar test

And more to the point the peoples favourite, Sting Ray Robb finished in the top 10. Praise the Lord..... :haha: Oh, did I mention there were only 10 drivers who took part..... :suspicious: :whistling:

Felix Rosenqvist was fastest among the 10 teams and 10 drivers who took part in the first of three days of testing at the Homestead-Miami roval in Florida. The Swede turned a best unofficial lap of 1m11.244s in the No. 66 Honda, and had countryman Marcus Ericsson of Andretti Global close behind at a 1m11.446s in the No. 98 Honda.

Reigning NTT IndyCar Series champion Alex Palou was third for Chip Ganassi Racing in the No. 10 Honda (1m11.529s), and in fourth, Arrow McLaren newcomer David Malukas was the first Bowtie representative in the No. 5 Chevy (1m11.757s). Behind him it was Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Agustin Canapino in fifth with the No. 78 Chevy (1m12.249s) and Ed Carpenter Racing’s Rinus VeeKay in sixth with the No. 21 Chevy (1m12.342s).

Graham Rahal was seventh in the No. 15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda (1m12.486s), Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden was eighth in the No. 12 Chevy (1m12.587s), Dale Coyne Racing tester Jack Harvey was ninth in the No. 18 Honda (1m13.895s), and A.J. Foyt Racing’s Sting Ray Robb rounded out the top 10 in the No. 41 Chevy (1m14.632s).

“It was a super smooth day for our first day running together,” Rosenqvist told RACER. “It’s a smaller team than I’m used to, but I quite like that about the team. Everybody is really happy to be working together with each other, and it’s already a cohesive group. And I really liked the car. Like, that’s the thing that’s on your mind the whole time when you’re changing teams; what’s the car going to be like, and will it be something I can work with easily? That was probably the best part of the day. The car was obviously quick, but it was a pleasure to drive.”

With teams limited to three sets of new tires per day and Homestead-Miami’s reputation for creating some of the highest tire degradation, teams were limited in how often they could run — and how many laps they could turn — before losing a lot of grip.

“It’s something everybody has to deal with here, but yeah, it means you get a couple of laps if you push hard and then the peak comes off pretty quickly,” Rosenqvist said. “We’re going pretty fast around here, and the tires get consumed fast as well. You just have to plan your day and what you’re trying to do around it.”

Due to limited supplies of the new-for-2024 lightweight chassis components, IndyCar instructed each of its full-time teams to bring one car to Homestead-Miami while the other cars in each team’s stable is updated to the current specification in the coming weeks.

As a result, the 10 teams have brought a single chassis to Florida to cycle its chosen drivers through the car over the three days, which explains why Penske’s Newgarden, for example, was in Will Power’s No. 12 Chevy on Monday, and will step out and hand over testing duties to his teammates for the remaining days of the outing. Palou’s No. 10 Ganassi Honda will have Scott Dixon and Linus Lundqvist on board this week, and the other teams are following a similar rotational practice as well.

Oh and less interesting that Stingy coming 10th out of ten in the tests comes news of an AN Other comeback.... :sarcasm:

Marco Andretti set for Indianapolis 500 return in 2024

Andretti Global confirmed Marco Andretti will return for another go at the Indianapolis 500 after announcing MAPEI as an official partner.
Yes, 2006 Rookie of the Year Marco Andretti will drive the No. 98 MAPEI / CURB Honda for the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500, which will mark his 19th appearance in the race.

To make sure he is up to par for the job, Marco has also locked in a programme of 13 ARCA races and seven in the NASCAR Truck Series in 2024.

Keep on Truckin'.

Day 2:
Andretti Global’s Colton Herta was fastest among the 11 drivers who took part on Day 2 of the three-day NTT IndyCar Series test on the Homestead-Miami roval.

Wheeling the No. 98 Honda, the Andretti veteran posted an unofficial top lap of 1m11.182s to lead Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon in the No. 9 Honda (1m11.404s), Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward in the No. 5 Chevy (1m11.499s), Meyer Shank Racing’s Tom Blomqvist in the No. 60 Honda (1m11.607s), and Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Agustin Canapino in the No. 78 Chevy (1m11.661s).

Completing the rest of the runners, Team Penske’s Will Power was sixth in the No. 12 Chevy (1m11.786s); JHR’s Romain Grosjean, who took over from Canapino in the afternoon, was seventh (1m11.816s); Ed Carpenter Racing rookie Christian Rasmussen was eighth in the No. 20 Chevy (1m11.8832s); Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Pietro Fittipaldi was ninth in the No. 30 Honda (1m12.191s); Dale Coyne Racing, which asked Jack Harvey to stay over for a second day of testing, was 10th (1m12.430s). A.J. Foyt Racing’s Sting Ray Robb was 11th in the No. 41 Chevy (1m12.856s).

Oh, day 3 testing times:
Kirkwood’s top lap of 1m11.277s in the No. 98 Honda also represented three straight days of the Honda Racing Corporation US-built motors leading the running on Homestead’s roval. Behind Kirkwood it was MSR’s Tom Blomqvist in the No. 60 Honda (1m11.475s), and Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Linus Lundqvist in the No. 8 Honda (1m11.640s) was third.

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Rinus VeeKay was fourth in the No. 21 Chevy (1m11.715s) and had Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Christian Lundgaard close behind in fifth with the No. 45 Honda (1m11.835s). The nicest surprise of the test was Indy NXT race winner and pre-season NXT title favorite Nolan Siegel, who made his IndyCar testing debut with Dale Coyne Racing and clocked the sixth-fastest lap with the No. 18 Honda (1m11.842s). Siegel was a pinch faster than fellow Californian Alexander Rossi, who was seventh in the No. 5 Chevy (1m11.894s).

Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin was eighth in the No. 12 Chevy (1m12.015s) and had Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Romain Grosjean — making his first appearance for his new team — in ninth with the No. 77 Chevy (1m12.221s). A.J. Foyt Racing’s Santino Ferrucci rounded out the list in 10th with the No. 14 Chevy (1m12.319s).

Good to see them back - team and drivers.

But I expect nothing.

Hopefully they can get a car back in the other rounds some day.

Something to look out for.....

SEASON ONE OF ‘100 DAYS TO INDY’ TO BE AVAILABLE ON PARAMOUNT+

Docuseries Premiers Globally Friday, Feb. 16

Paramount+ announced Feb. 7 that all six episodes of the first season of the docuseries “100 Days To Indy” will be made available on the service globally for the first time Friday, Feb. 16, with the exception of Japan, which will follow Tuesday, April 19.

Produced by Penske Entertainment and VICE Media Group, “100 Days To Indy” charts the adrenaline-fueled journeys of NTT INDYCAR SERIES’ best drivers in their pursuit of victory at the iconic Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, the world’s largest single-day sporting event.

Following bold, brash personalities in their on-and off-track lives, the 100-day buildup to the final showdown begins on the starting grid of the 2023 season’s first race at St. Petersburg, Florida. From there comes high-octane drama, fearless driving and fiery competition stretching from St. Petersburg across the country until the winner crosses the finish line at the Indy 500, securing their position in motorsport’s history books in front of more than 300,000 fans.

The global field of 33 drivers racing toward the prestigious Borg-Warner Trophy hails from 15 nations and includes four-time winner Helio Castroneves, who is chasing a record-breaking fifth win, and 2022 winner Marcus Ericsson. But earning racing’s most coveted prize means they’ll first have to see off two-time series champion Josef Newgarden, plus a whole new generation of young drivers vying for their slice of the multimillion-dollar purse, including Pato O’Ward, Colton Herta and Christian Lundgaard.

“100 Days To Indy” is directed by Emmy Award-winner Patrick Dimon, and the executive producer is Bryan Terry for VICE. Adam Marinelli and Dimon are co-executive producers.

David Malukas is out through injury.

https://racer.com/2024/02/14/malukas-ou ... t-surgery/

Roberto Moreno is sitting by the phone.
Is Illot in the wings or is he otherwise committed? I know he went to do WEC with the Jota Porsche but dont think they have much on their plate this early in the year. I think he was also doing selected IMSA races but not many.
It seems Illot is / appears to be warming that seat up.....

Ilott to join Arrow McLaren for Homestead IndyCar test

The Arrow McLaren team will get its first look at the driving skills and technical feedback of Callum Ilott, who will step in and test on behalf of the recently-injured David Malukas.

Ilott will join the team on Wednesday, February 21 for this week’s hybrid engine test at Homestead-Miami Speedway. After that all teams will head to Sebring International Raceway next week for a two-day test where every full-time entry is expected to be in action.

A bit of a hiccup could be Ilott’s WEC duties kick in this weekend as he is due to test in Qatar at the official Prologue event across Feb. 24-25...... Making the Feb. 26-27 test at Sebring in place of Malukas would be a 'logistical challenge' for Ilott due to his obligations with Jota, but he could get the nod to race for the team at St. Petersburg, which takes place one week after the WEC race in Qatar.

The team will make its decision on who will drive the No. 6 Chevy at a later date.

Now I've been hearing some nasty rumours that y'all haven't had enough faith in the People's Sting Ray (Robb).

It's time to end that!

With new Go Fast red bits, the People's Sting Ray (Robb) surely has righteousness on his side, and that's got add a few mph of speed. And with your blessing, I think he's got what it takes to win this year.
