"Two people were killed at the Nürburgring on Wednesday in a crash that took place during Industry-Pool testing, Munich paper Merkur reports.
This story was updated at 4:18 P.M. Eastern with the name of one of the employees killed.
The two dead were Luxembourg-based Goodyear employees performing a tire test in a Porsche on the Nordschleife on Wednesday morning. One of the victims has been named as Christan Franck, a 39-year-old test driver and racer. The other has not been identified publicly. The crash occurred at Tiergarten, a series of high-speed esses that come after the fast left-hand kink at the end of the long Döttinger Hohe straight. Both were thrown out of the car.
"We are deeply saddened that two Luxembourg-based Goodyear employees died in a car accident on a test track in Germany on August 9," Goodyear GmBH said in a statement to Merkur. "We are supporting the local authorities in the investigation." A Porsche spokesperson also told the paper that "[a]t the moment we can only confirm that the vehicle involved in the accident is a model of our brand."
A Nürburgring spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
Industry Pool is a large private test session regularly held for automakers and suppliers to develop their latest products. During any given Industry Pool session, you'll see a number of prototype cars from all sorts of companies lapping the Nordschleife at the same time. Industry Pool sessions are not open to the public."

Thrown from the car isn’t good. Wondering about restraint systems.
