phpBB upgraded to 3.3.8

Post by PTRACER »

Hey all, I've updated the forum software from 3.2.5 to 3.3.8. I hope this will make the forum a little more secure and the experience a little smoother for everyone.

I've had to reset the default theme to Flat Style, but have added an easy theme switcher at the bottom of the Index page so you can easily go back to whatever you were using previously.

Guide:
Flat Style - Default design for The Fastlane
subsilver - A phpBB2.0 theme similar to one used at The Fastlane many years ago
prosilver - The theme used by Farzad's forum

Good work Paul and all seems good. I tried to access earlier but got a "Forbidden" and a 503 error message as well, different from yesterdays issues, but remembered you had mentioned of the software upgrade. Went and made coffee and a. snack, played with my pussy (cat) and then thought I would try the forum. Surprised it logged me straight in no issues, so the update was quick and totally seamless (for me anyway. )

Thanks Paul for the work and time you put in to sort it all. Good stuff. Hopefully smooth sailing for the forum and the GP later on. Yesterdays issues were not evident this morning (my time) either so all good. :fingers: :fingers: :fingers:

The banner for the Abu Dhabi countdown is wrong. It's supposed to be 5 hours 37, but it's currently 14 hours 37.

Is that my time settings, or the boards?

Thanks for looking after us and trying to make things work better for us @PTRACER. There is a lot of work involved in doing things like that I know. We all appreciate your efforts to keep this place running for us

There's a banner with a countdown clock? How come I've never seen that? :amazed: Maybe my ad blocker blocks it, I don't know.

Thanks all. You're right, it does take a lot of time and it doesn't help that I didn't document the process last time. This time I have, so the next upgrade in however many years should be smoother.

@DoubleFart @Star About the Countdown clock, I added it as a new feature, but it turns out it is locked to your PC's time so I removed it. I have installed a separate mod instead, please let me know whether you can see it and if the time until the race is correct!

I can see it now @PTRACER. Thanks for that

I used to have to go into the control panel on gp. com to change the picture and deal with members and so on, I hated it as I was never confident in what I was doing and was terrified I'd screw it up. So I admire what you do greatly :twothumbs:

Thanks Chris.

@Star Oh it is easy to mess up! That's why I finally decided to create a test environment that I can mess around in.

By the way, I have added two new features:

- There is now a post number in the top right corner of each post
- You can select your country's flag (or a flag from another country) via your user profile and it will display beneath your avatar!

Hi Paul, re those features I dont see a post number and I dont see a flag option in my profile.

Is that theme dependent? ie only on certain themes. I just use the default 'flat' it calls itself.

Maybe I need to log out then back in? With the update you warned us it would log us out and we would have to log in again..... I never had that issue, it just took me straight to the board index already logged in as usual.

Edit.... All good. It has now all appeared and flag etc done.

I found the flag setting  I was looking through, are we UK, GB, etc. I noticed Wales has their own option but England doesn't. Odd. Nice idea though, thanks for adding it

Should be visible on all themes. Glad you found it now  I feel it's nice to have these little customisable bits and bobs added from time to time!

Thanks for this Chris, it took about an hour in total and I sat around waiting for a few people to finish posting their messages before I began so I hope there was no significant downtime

What theme are you using? Are you talking about the avatar/profile information?
