Did DTM kill itself this season?

Bottom post of the previous page:

I'm surprised the DTM is still going but glad to see that it is even if it did have to switch to GT3 regs in order to keep going.

DTM was losing relevance for some time but the 2021 season finale sitshow was the final nail in the coffin. It's a farce run by manufacturers now alas it's a bigger problem for motorsport in Germany. They don't even have a F1 Grand Prix during one of the biggest dominating periods for a German manufacturer there. Yeah, DTM is still going but who actually gives a damn about this series? Even Rene Rast has moved back to Formula E again for 2023.

Healthier grids and more manufacturers at least.

The 2021 finale was not a nail in any coffin. I could agree it was a shitshow, but if anything it proved that DTM still matters for the major German manufacturers, and 2022 only went to show that. Even Porsche increased their commitment this year.

It may be that some fans are frustrated by the GT3 cars and team orders, and some drivers are frustrated by the driving standards, but none of this is new. I followed DTM closer than in many years in '22 and thought it was great. Rast moves to FE in '23 with McLaren as a side-gig, his main deal is with BMW which may still include DTM.

As for DTM's future, I think the new set-up with the ADAC could make it stronger at home in Germany, as they've gotten rid of the dead weight international races in Portugal and Italy. Those international races was what killed it in the 90's so it is good they have reevaluated that approach.

Red Bull pulls out of DTM with Berger no longer in charge. Oh yeah, DTM is doing so great it doesn't need one of the biggest private companies involved in motorsport, right?
