He was a truly unique and great guitarist. I don't own a single Van Halen album, but it is hard to deny his talent. There ain't that many guitarists who come along who make a difference. He was one of them.

The name was bigger than the music. Other than Jump, I struggle to name a single other Van Halen song. Although I got through 7 albums in a row the other day while at work and I didn't feel like turning off.

Not with Dave Lee Roth it wasn't. You're not old enough to understand. Stick to listening to Queen.

Nothing, Jesper's English skill failed him when reading your post. He thought you were insulting him, rather than praising him.

After Jimi Hendrix he was the next one who radically changed rock guitar. Before Eddie, no one sounded like Eddie. After Van Halen I, millions wanted to sound like him. On Van Halen I he set new standards. He was an alien among the other guitar players.

Thing is, he can't do it without insulting.

Well, it does leave him a rather unique place in rock history. There are not that many guitarist that get that type of mass appeal. Certainly 1) Chuck Berry, 2) then Eric Clapton, 3) then Hendrix, 4) then maybe Jimmy Page, and 5) Eddie Van Halen. Anyone one I am leaving out?erwin greven wrote: ↑3 years ago After Jimi Hendrix he was the next one who radically changed rock guitar. Before Eddie, no one sounded like Eddie. I do think there were a number of more influential guitarists. In the case of Chuck Berry and Eric Clapton, there were times when it seemed like every rock guitarist was trying to sound like them. Not a whole lot of guitarists have had that degree of influence.

Uli Jon Roth in particular. Randy and Gary were awesome guitar players but they did not change that much in rock music.
