Fred Stout, Surtees 500 Formula A. This is the one he propped up on a telephone poll and broke both legs.
-Beth StroutWe were in the stands in turn 1. No one would give us a status, and we thought he must be dead. Later I found out it was because gas was leaking and he had to be cut out. They were afraid of fire. Dad had us paint both of his leg casts with flags, British and US, for the bicentennial.

Nothing really that we dont know (I dont have a facebook a/c and cant access the above) but the car history at oldracingcars.com tells us:
Chassis # TS5A/006
A bit of trivia about Fred Stout is that he is an accomplished artist painting race cars (oil paintings)
A painting of his of the 1931 Le Mans winning Alfa 8C (in spoiler as it is a bit irrelevant to this topic!)

Full car history: https://www.oldracingcars.com/surtees/ts5/. Scroll down page to TS5A/006...... Bought from Johnson by Fred Stout (Brentwood/St Louis, MO) and his mechanic partner Bland McCoy, and raced in SCCA Nationals and occasional Pro races in 1975. In September 1975, Stout crashed the car very heavily in a SCCA race at Mid-America Raceway. He lost control, hit the guardrail and then hit a telegraph pole. The cockpit of the car had folded in, trapping him, and the dashboard and other metal had to be cut away to free him. He was taken to hospital with two broken legs and a broken ankle. Stout's nephew, Fred Stout Jr, recalls that the car was later 'purchased by unknown but went to England for restoration and racing'.

Borderline unrelated, but there is a picture of Stout's Surtees and the source is quoted as etceterini.com. On the site, there seems to be complete SCCA race programs and results from the 1950s up to 1962. That is such a useful resource to have!Everso Biggyballies wrote: ↑3 years ago Nothing really that we dont know (I dont have a facebook a/c and cant access the above) but the car history at oldracingcars.com tells us:
