The details of what SPAM are trying to do with Hinch are shady. They have Hinch under contract for 2020 with a decent retainer, but for him to earn that he has to be present at every race and fulfill team duties. If he doesn’t then he will be held in breach of contract. Hinch’s lawyers are trying to sue.
Indycar and IMS are now owner by (a subsidiary of) Penske
Autosport.com wrote:A subsidiary of the Penske Corporation has purchased the IndyCar Series and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway among other assets from the previous owner, Hulman and Company.
The blockbuster purchase has been made by a Penske division named Penske Entertainment Corp, which means Penske's four-car IndyCar team will compete in a championship that is owned by its parent company.
Penske won both the 2019 Indianapolis 500 with Simon Pagenaud (below) and this year's IndyCar drivers' title with Josef Newgarden.
A short statement issues on Monday read: "The Board of Directors of Hulman and Company are announcing the sale of the company and certain subsidiaries, including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the NTT IndyCar Series and Indianapolis Motor Speedway Productions (IMS Productions), to Penske Entertainment Corp, a subsidiary of Penske Corporation."
Roger Penske, Hulman and Company chairman Tony George and Mark Miles - president and CEO of Hulman and Company - are set to discuss the sale later on Monday.
Penske has branched out in recent years, adding a Supercars venture with DJR in Australia to its long-term NASCAR and IndyCar programmes.
It sure is, like Miller says, imagine if it would have been sold to Nascar, ISC, Disney or Comcast. Yikes.
Roger said in the press conference that we won't see him doing much strategy for the team this year. Sounds god too. I hope he doesn't go forwrd with the 25/8 rule though. That's my main worry.
Edit: Apparently Liberty Media was the other bidder according to Robin Miller. Dodged a big bullet there I think.
Does anyone know anything extra about what Captain Liverspot's son is doing and how he's placed these days?
I ask because Roger isn't going to be around forever. He might be a bit of a dick, but he's a pure racer and has the sport's interests at heart. But he won't be running the joint for long.
