correct me if I'm wrong, but the straight between Tamburello chicane and Villeneuve chicane is not exactly on the place where the old straight between Tamburello bend and Villeneuve bend used to be?

The old straight should be parallel to the inside wall from all I can tell. There used to be a motorcycle chicane on the left side just prior to Villeneuve. I suspect in the remodelling the new right hander at Villeneuve need a bit more runoff to the inside so the preceding straight used the space for the motorbike chicane.
The problem as far as I understand is that there is a river just beyond the wall on the outside of the circuit.

That is the reason that the barriers could not be moved back at the point of Senna's accident, as requested ironically by Ayrton when he did the GPDA pre-race Imola track driver inspection a month or so prior to the fateful race. There was also a very (centuries?) old historically noted tree right at the barrier next to the river IIRC
