For the online play with GT Sport you (obviously) need to a PlayStation Plus subscription. Which I don't, because I don't game that much. So that's another $60 per year if I want to race online.
I used a 2-day free trial instead last night and while I had fun with a few races the experience was quite limiting. Only 3 races to choose from and I'm not sure if that's it per day or if they are changed / rotated during the day.
Racing wise the game is as good as it ever has been, but from an overall immersiveness perspective I'm feeling disappointed.
I have a PS Plus subscription for my kids as they play on the PS3 a lot, for me, that's just another reason to not purchase GT Sport and supporting PS4 console. I pay for PS Plus quarterly and that's $25/quarter, so that's any extra $100/year to play a game. NOT COOL SONY/POLYPHONY! I guess this will be the end of the GT franchise for many, it's not been truly great since GT3.

sometimes I feel like digging up GT6 and have a go on the PS3
Just had a go. Its been a few years, but the graphics hold up in an excellent way.
Mighty impressed. And to have the track editor is awesome.
I still play GT6 on a semi-regular basis, maybe one or twice a month when the fancy takes me. I do wonder how amazing it would be if Polyphony ever ported it to the PC, especially if they improved the AI while they were at it!

Just got GT Sport Delux edition. The DLC was available immediately. So I guess I can't relate to all the complaints (but it was an overnight download time). So far it's been pretty awesome! Plus waiting for the price of the deluxe edition to come down has netted me a garage full of cars for less than the initial price of the game at intro.
The fully updated game plays more like GT3 (but with a GT4 car selection) than some of the past variants. There are not too many C and B spec cars (hatchbacks and compact sedans).
