I imagine every great has had his race(s) of which he was not too proud.
This one springs to mind for Schumacher:
For Hamilton:
Abysmal drives by great drivers

Pretty harsh to call Hamilton on that one considering it's one mistake - there are plenty of drivers who have missed the red light in Canada.
Now Hamilton at the Nurburgring in 2007 - clearly wasn't the car since Alonso was on form Hamilton was just shit all day, be it because of the Saturday accident or whatever, but that is the only thing HE did wrong to lose the 2007 championship. (Shanghai being the teams fault, Brazil being the car)

Isn't this just a rehash of other threads we've had before?
Hamilton at Nurburgring 2007 was about tyres. Aside from being clipped by the BMWs at the start, Hamilton couldn't do much that race after the team put him out on the wrong tyres at the wrong time. Dry tyres in wet / drying conditions, etc... it was a gamble but it failed to pay off.
An abysmal race would be Massa at Silverstone 2008. Or Andy Rouse at the 1993 Pembury round of the BTCC, when he finally made his Ford Mondeo debut and got hit by at least half a dozen rivals on his way to a retirement. Or perhaps Giampiero Simoni during round two of the 1994 BTCC season at Brands Hatch when he had first corner contact in race 1, punted a couple of cars out, multiple spins and a DSQ.
