A few highlights of whats to come.....

Just a reminder this isnt the one at a time runs up the hillclimb meeting.... , this features full on races on the track with some stunning cars..

7 cars with huge engines at 81MM
This year’s Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport is all about the big bangers. From the Can-Am demo, to a race dedicated to V8 Mustangs, to the wild S.F. Edge Trophy, raw displacement is the unofficial theme. So we thought we’d count down some of the biggest of the big bangers at this year’s event.

McLaren M8F – 7.5-8.8 litre V8
Starting with the McLaren M8F, which only on this list can be considered weedy-of-engine, when in its 7.5-litre configuration. As with many Can-Am challengers of the era, it packed big-block Chevy V8 power to varying displacements. Almost all fed by a spectacular and elaborate array of inlet trumpets sat over the driver’s shoulder. It’s a proper monster.

Image

Lola T222 – 8-litre V8

As is the Lola T222, which we are fairly sure is packing no less than an 8-litre version of the Chevy big-block. It’s very similar to the McLaren in that it’s a big angry wedge with some big shiny trumpets poking out the middle, feeding a very big V8. Like the McLaren, said V8 should make a monstrous amount of noise.

Image

Shadow DN4 – 8.1-11-litre V8
When it comes to Can-Am, it’s with Shadow that things get weird. Meet the DN4, a racing car seemingly inspired by the hair-brained wheeled schemes of a certain D. Dastardly. This car wasn’t all show, though. Jackie Oliver deployed its humongous Chevy V8 to take the 1974 Can-Am Driver’s Championship via victory at four of the five races that season.

Image

Oakland Romano Demon special – 8.2-litre V8
Now we get to the weird stuff. Racing in the S.F. Edge Trophy and sitting at some 60 years older than the Can-Am cars, are the aero-engined specials. Some of which make the Can-Am cars’ massive V8s look like food blenders. This Oakland Romano isn’t quite one of them but it is considerably sizable, with a WW1 8.2-litre Curtis V8. This car won the first ever Pikes Peak hillclimb, in 1915. Hopefully this year it doesn’t relieve itself of one of its tyres early into the race.

Image

Theophile Schneider Aero – 10-litre i4

In the 1913 Theophile Schneider Aero, we graduate into the double figures of displacement. It packs a 10-litre aero engine under that elongated bonnet. Big-of-block though it is, it’s plenty nimble enough, as was demonstrated in 2021 when it positively dances around the Motor Circuit in the pouring rain.

81MM timetable. (race by race timetable >> https://www.goodwood.com/motorsport/mem ... programme/

Here is the timetable for the 81st Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport. Goodwood’s 2024 motorsport season gets underway on the 13th and 14th April with an incredibly exciting weekend of historic motorsport topped off with some truly spectacular on-track demonstrations featuring some of history’s most remarkable racing cars.

Action on the Motor Circuit opens on Saturday morning with a dynamic demonstration of Alpine’s latest sportscars before the Sidecars take to the track for the first time at 09:30 for their first practice session before the Sidecar Shootout.

Over the course of Saturday morning, there will be a variety of machines on track, from the bikes of the Hailwood Trophy to the Edwardian monsters of the S.F. Edge Trophy, as they all take part in their respective Official Practice sessions.

You’ll want a good vantage point to catch a glimpse of the Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) demonstration at 11:50, the details of which we’ll be able to reveal in the lead-up to the event. That’s followed by the Ford Mustangs of the Ken Miles Cup at 12:35 before we put fingers in our ears for the monstrous Can-Am demonstration at 13:40.

We’ll then have Official Practice for the Graham Hill and Surtees Trophies before the next demonstration will see Niki Lauda’s final F1 car, the McLaren MP4/2B, take to the Motor Circuit at 15:05 in celebration of his third F1 world championship triumph 40 years ago.

We then hop from one Austrian legend to another, as Gerhard Berger returns to the cockpit of his 1989 Ferrari 640 for a spin around the Motor Circuit in what is sure to be an exhilarating moment as we listen to that 3.5-litre V12 sing.

The first race of the weekend gets underway at 16:45 with Part 1 of the Hailwood Trophy. That’s followed by the inaugural Sidecar Shootout at 17:10 before the day of track action comes to an end with the S.F. Edge Trophy Part 1 and the Gordon Spice Trophy.

Sunday is a day filled with racing action that begins with the Parnell Cup at 09:00. The Derek Bell Cup follows at 09:40 before the Sidecars return at 11:00 for the Shootout-Knockout. The flag drops for the Surtees Trophy at 11:50 before the GMA cars return for another spin at 12:25.

The sustainably-fuelled Ken Miles Cup begins at 12:55 ahead of the second Can-Am demonstration of the weekend. Sunday afternoon is packed, with the S.F. Edge, Graham Hill and Grover-Williams Trophies, interspersed with second appearances for both the Niki Lauda celebration and the Gerhard Berger moment.

The Sidecar Shootout final kicks off at 16:55 for what is bound to be a thrilling climax, before the 81st Members’ Meeting comes to an end with the Peter Collins Trophy at 17:35 and finally the Gordon Spice Sprint at 18:20.

Saturday tickets, weekend tickets and grandstand passes have now sold out for the 81st Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport. Sunday tickets are limited so book now to join us for the 2024 motorsport season opener. You don’t want to miss it.

More highlights from the weekend

The most successful cars ever| 2024 Grover Williams Trophy Highlights | 81MM
The Grover Williams Trophy celebrated the 100th anniversary of the most successful racing car in history – the Bugatti Type 35. A field full of Bugattis and a few of their in period rivals took on Goodwood for a fantastic race.

Chaos.... | 2024 Ken Miles Cup Highlights | 81MM
The Ken Miles Cup celebrated 60 years of the Ford Mustang with a race for just Notchback Ford Mustangs. Filled with famous drivers including Dario Franchitti, Gordon Shedden, Tom Kristensen, Rob Huff, Tom Ingram and more this was a chaotic, but brilliant race.

Get out of the way! | 2024 Gordon Spice Sprint Highlights | 81MM
The Gordon Spice Sprint's reveresed-grid format guarantees incredible action. And we were not disappointed in 2024. The big V8 engined cars attacked from the off leaving the Minis almost powerless to defend.

For those who yearn for the sound of a V12 F1 car......

Gerhard Berger's screaming Ferrari 640 lights up 81MM
One of the most hotly-anticipated moments at the 81st Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport was Gerhard Berger being reunited with his 1989 Ferrari 640 F1 car. A generation of Tifosi rejoiced in unison, as the 3.5-litre V12 barked into life for a few glorious laps at Goodwood.

Gerhard being Gerhard didn’t hold back either, and put on a show for the ages, showing that V12 engine revs it hasn’t seen since 1989. As the car spit up sparks on the start-finish straight on the way into Madgwick, the crowds erupted with joy as memories from one of F1’s greatest eras came flooding back.

The most beautiful F1 car ever made? It’s in the running. One of the greatest sounding F1 cars of all time? Almost certainly. And Gerhard, a racer’s racer, loved soaking up all the motorsport love Goodwood goers had to give. A wonderful moment we’ll always cherish.
