The #7 Toyota TS050 went out of the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans with clutch issues, which I imagine isn't too strange, however the reason for this is because an LMP2 driver wished to give encouragement to Kobayashi who was waiting in the pits for cars to pass, and he took that as a signal to go before being radio'd to stop, which in turn ruined the clutch and the race for the #7.

A.J. Foyt quit after 115 laps in the 1990 Daytona 500 after being no longer able to stand the smell coming from his helmet.

The helmet was brand new and apparently the glue used inside it did not mix too well with the sweat coming off his head. In an interview with David Hobbs after bowing out, A.J. said he felt like he was totally drunk and was going to injure himself or someone else if he stayed out, before remarking that he didn't know how people "Dope and Drive". :haha:

Same thing happened to the Lotus entries in the 2012 Indy 500.

Sascha Maassen in 1995 Zolder STW sprint race. Slid down the escape road in the rain and didn't know how to engage reverse gear so was left stranded into retirement. It was his first touring car race ever.
